I’m no expert, but I wonder if V-prongs would help. That way the corners would get more protection from impact, and hopefully the prongs wouldn’t bend as easily. Plus it’s not a full bezel so you wouldn’t lose all the sparkle on the edges. Something like this:

Would you be open to starting over and maybe getting a round moissanite or lab grown diamond for a new left hand ring. But keeping your original stone as a right hand ring or setting it into a bezel pendant?

I liked the v prong suggestion, although without a full bezel on that stone, it will only chip more.
If I were you, I’d start over. I think your moissanite would make a lovely pendant.
You could do a very thin bezel or even a 1/2 bezel. I have a very thin bezel in my radiant and I don’t think it adds much in terms of size or covers much of the diamond, but is very secure.
You don’t have to do a whole bezel. You could always do a semi bezel with small v prongs on the opposite tips.

Honestly if you are open to it, perhaps you could consider getting another ring altogether. You could still have this one to wear on occasion when you are doing less with your hands, but perhaps consider a lab diamond in a bezel setting? I am surprised that it has chipped already, moissanite was quite durable. Sorry this has been so difficult for you, best of luck getting it sorted out 🍀

I commissioned my moissanite from shinypreciousgems here on reddit, then brought it to a local jeweler to make the setting.
I don’t wear mine everyday, but I’ve had it for 3 years now with absolutely no issue. Happy to send more pics of the setting if you like :)
Personally I would recommend starting over! The setting really doesn’t look suitable for a stone of that size, particularly the depth as it’s just not well protected enough! I imagine the jeweller that made it for you was trying to keep the price down by reducing the metal content as much as possible, but that’s when you end up with problems like you’ve had!
To truly feel confident, I think you’d be best having a new setting made with V claws/prongs at least, which wouldn’t affect how it sits with your open band 😊
The current claws/prongs look like they’re holding on for dear life 😅 and with a stone of that size and shape you want to protect the corners and edges as much as possible if you want to wear it every day!

The ring looks very pretty but I believe your local jeweler is correct: with those tiny prongs on a massive stone, this is just not suitable for daily wear. I am not surprised you had to have it fixed mutliple times already.
I do think this stone is beautifully cut and cut be set in a way that would be snug enough not to break all the time. Perfect v prongs that really curve inward and grab the stone could be a solution, however it’s possible that even that would still not be enough to make this an everyday ring.
The stability necessary for everyday wear and tear is just different from an occasion piece. I do think the Etsy jeweller messed up – the prongs are clearly way too small and I’d be scared to even wear this on occasion. However even bigger prongs may not yield the same stability that a smaller, rounder stone gives. Sorry 🙁
A bezel pendant would be really lovely with the stone you have now if you do decide to start over. I have a bezel set ruby ring that was my grandmother’s and I’ve had it since 2008 with no issues. I think if you do decide to reset your stone, that a bezel setting would still look beautiful.
Lab diamond prices have really decreased this year if you want to start with a new stone or ring. It may cost the same or less than resetting your current stone. I just got an emerald cut 2 ct lab diamond solitaire in 18kt gold from Sam’s Club for $1399.00. I wear a size 6, so I didn’t need sizing, but I think if you do need sizing, they do not offer it from Sam’s. You would need a local jeweler to size it. There were several different shapes available in store and online.
I also have a 1 carat moissanite round solitaire from QVC set in 14kt yellow gold that was less than $300 that is beautiful quality. I think you could probably find the same or better prices with other jewelers online.
I’m with the jeweler, I’d probably do a thin bezel if I decided to keep it. It’s so cool and unique, but I’d be annoyed as well.
I reset my engagement ring stone into a bezel, but it’s round and not that big. It’s sturdy though!
I love my bezel set diamond. It didn’t add much width at all. My bezel is very thin yet super secure.
Why don’t you just go with chevron prongs?
Not an expert but would putting four more prongs around the side work, and switching the prongs to white gold so it doesn’t distract from your glimmering stone…
Particularly because you’ve had multiple repairs, I’d suggest you really look into the different type bezel settings. I’m a die-hard bezel fan (especially full bezels), and you can certainly choose one that does not add much, if any, to finger coverage. The idea of not having to worry about damaging your center stone, never worrying about stone loss, no yearly checks to make sure prongs are still in good shape, the likelihood it will be low profile so wearability is great, etc, etc. It seems like that would sound really good to you at this point! The engagement ring in my first set is a dark blue natural sapphire in a full bezel with a halo, and my 20 year ring is a radiant cut diamond in a full bezel that’s cathedral set with a split shank. Even my tennis bracelet is bezel set. I highly recommend it!
The faceted parts of your stone already have the metal of the basket underneath and I believe that high polish metal is part of what is allowing for the sparkle you love from your ring. A bezel will cover part of the facets closest to the edge, so you may lose a bit of sparkle, but putting more metal behind the stone can help increase the sparkle – like how rhinestones have a metallic coating on the back side to reflect light.
It’s too bad that the ring you already bought is so different & pretty. Unfortunately the ring will not hold up for long. I’d make sure it’s actually a moisenette as advertised. You’d be better off if you can afford it buying a whole new ring. You can use this one for a right hand ring on special occasions.
