Stuck Between Three Shapes: Letting Him Decide the Perfect Engagement Ring
Hello, lovely community! 💍
As someone who has been dreaming about the perfect engagement ring for years, I find myself in a unique predicament. I’ve narrowed it down to three stunning shapes, but can’t seem to pick just one. So, in a moment of spontaneity, I thought, “Why not let him choose?” After all, it’s a symbol of our journey together and his choice could add a meaningful touch to the experience!
The Contenders
-
Round Brilliant Cut: This classic shape continues to dazzle with its timeless elegance. With around 58 facets, it reflects light beautifully, which makes it a popular choice among many brides. I love its versatility and the way it pairs with almost any setting. Is it too predictable, though?
-
Princess Cut: The modern sweetheart of the diamond world, the princess cut is edgy yet romantic. It boasts a contemporary feel while still being regal with its square silhouette. I adore how it can showcase both sparkles and character. But is it too bold for our style?
-
Oval Cut: This stunning option strikes the perfect balance between classic and trendy. With a unique elongated shape, it gives the illusion of a larger stone—who doesn’t want that? I’m drawn to its elegance and the way it can make a finger look longer. However, do I want something that’s a bit off the beaten path?
The Big Decision
What do you all think? Is it wise to let him have a say in the final choice? This ring will represent not just a promise of forever, but also our unique partnership. Each shape reflects a part of our relationship: the classic reliability of the round, the adventurous spirit of the princess, and the uniqueness of the oval.
Community Input
I’d love to hear your thoughts on my dilemma! Have any of you found yourselves in a similar situation? How did you decide on your rings? Did you have a “say” in the matter, or was it a complete surprise?
And of course, if you have engagement rings that you’ve pinned your heart to, please show them off! Share photos, stories about your purchases, and insights on what you learned about gem cuts, settings, and styles. Let’s create a space where we not only reflect our personal tastes but also learn from each other’s experiences.
I can’t wait to see your beautiful rings and hear your thoughts! 💕✨

Love the classic round on you 🥰
Have you tried the “coin flip” type thing, like think of each shape and imagine you let him choose, flip a coin and pay attention to if you feel especially happy/disappointed at any of the options. For 3 options you could use a random number generator to pick 1-3
If you do that and find you have genuinely no strong feelings then definitely let him surprise you!
Classic round is just lovely on you!
I love the round! Gorgeous!
Me too, round.
Nothing sparkles like a classic round… I thought that I would take any shape except round. But when trying on the rings, nothing quite sparkles like around Diamond does is what I realized.
So I just got around. So glad I did… will always recommend around over any other cut.
1 & 2 look the best on your hand
I usually do not like round rings, but it looks really nice on your hand!
Radiantttt
I love round. So classic and beautiful! My original engagement ring was a heart shaped. I love it very much but my husband bought me an upgrade for our 20th wedding anniversary, it’s classic round and I am so in love with it. The sparkle is so much brighter!
Round is stunning here and a great size ratio to your fingers! You can always stack wedding and anniversary bands with different shapes to compliment – but the round is a show stopper!
Round looks fantastic on you
Everyone is saying round, but I like the look and shape of the rectangular ones. They go well with your long fingers. In these pics I can’t tell much difference between them. I think letting your bf have the final pick is a great idea.
I like the third cushion cut. Beautiful on your hand!
#3
I love all 3, I say let him pick! 💗
Based on the shape of your hand, I’d say the best might be a marquise, but otherwise, the round & the elongated cushion.
Have him pick and then you’ll get to be surprised without it being risky. I also couldn’t choose between round and oval so I told my man these styles and round or oval centre stone and he chose a round one that I adore.
All gorgeous but 3 is next level
Cushion looks great on your hand ~
They ALL look gorgeous on you.
I love the Round Diamond… maybe it’s because of my age, idk.
I will give you the same advice that I have said before, go with your gut instinct… and if you can’t decide, then I would ask for him to be the one who decides.
If either of you have any specific plans for wedding bands, that may be what sways you in one direction or another.
Much Love and Happiness to you both!!! ♥️
The second one compliments your hand the most. To me, the round is just okay!
I had a hard time deciding between oval and elongated cushion. I let my (now) fiance decide and I’m so happy I did. He was able to pick out a ring he knew I’d love while having it still be a surprise 🙂
2
All beautiful and while I love 1., 3 is just stunning on your hand!
I personally love the cushion cut, but all 3 are gorgeous!
All three look great on you so if you’d be equally happy with any option I think it’s worth having him choose his favorite.
When I was looking at rings I liked emeralds, asschers, and square cushion (old mine cut). I gave my fiance the options and told him to pick which one he liked best so he could surprise me – I’m pretty type A and had a good deal of input into the style/designer, but I love my ring even more knowing he chose one of the most major details (and a few smaller ones too!)
I’m partial to the elongated cushion because that is what I have and you also have long nails beds and I’m weird and this is what I look at and take into consideration 😅😅😅
The round looks brilliant on you! 🥰
I like the third! But all are beautiful. If you are torn and love them all I would let him pick! Then it’s a little bit of a surprise too 🙂 congrats!

I think # 2 looks incredible on your hand!
The Emerald cut looks so elegant , I prefer the last pic, it’s gorgeous
I couldn’t decide between round or oval so I let hubby pick!
