I would say that your proposal more than made up for its lack of polish and spectacle with its sincerity and genuine emotion. Polished spectacle plays very well on social media, but for a marriage, I’ll take sincerity and genuine emotion every time.

I work in jewelry and one of my favorite types of proposers are the ones who cannot WAIT to propose. I had one guy who called me ahead to say he was coming to pick it up but we had to be sneaky and to pretend he’d never been in. The whole team collaborated to distract his girlfriend and sneak the receipt for signature and palm him the box. We pulled the heist off like Ocean’s Eleven, waved good bye to them, watched them get in his truck…and then watched as he IMMEDIATELY cracked and proposed. Absolutely adorable.
As someone who was a first-time bride at 49, I think this whole idea of the ‘perfect proposal’ is a waste, because life isn’t perfect. We see a lot of rings on here and I’ve gotta say, yours is easily one of the prettiest IMO. I love that the diamonds are different sizes yet work perfectly and that is an incredible absinthe-colored sapphire. He did a great job, enjoy your beautiful ring and life!
