Engagement Ring Dilemma: Help Needed Before the Big Day!
Hey everyone!
I hope you’re all doing well and enjoying the delight of sharing and showing off your beautiful engagement rings. Today, I find myself in a bit of a pickle, and I could really use your collective wisdom and support. 🥺💍
So, here’s the situation: I absolutely love my engagement ring, but I’ve recently encountered an issue that has me stressed out—especially with our wedding just two weeks away! 😱 What should have been a time of excitement has turned into nail-biting anxiety.
The Ring
I got my ring from Jared, a classic but beautifully unique piece with a halo setting and an oval diamond. I adore the way it sparkles and the intricate details of the band. It’s exactly what I envisioned, and I actually picked it out while dreaming of our future together. ❤️✨
The Issue
Last week, I noticed a small scratch on the stone—the kind that could be easily overlooked, but as someone who’s obsessed with keeping it in pristine condition, it broke my heart. I immediately contacted Jared, and while they were responsive, the timeline for repair is tight. They assured me that it would take 5-7 business days. However, with our wedding just around the corner, it adds a layer of stress I didn’t anticipate!
What Would You Do?
Here’s where I’d love your input and advice:
-
Repair or Replace? Given the timeline, do you think it’s worth trying to push for a quicker turnaround? Or should I consider a replacement?
-
Temporary Solutions? If the ring isn’t back in time, should I look for a temporary alternative or something simple to wear on the big day?
-
Experience with Jared: For those who have had similar experiences with Jared or other jewelers, what’s the best way to navigate this? Any tips on ensuring I can get my cherished ring back in time without compromising on quality?
-
Show Off Your Rings! I’d also love to see your engagement rings! If you’ve had any similar experiences—whether good or bad—let’s discuss! And if you’re gearing up for a wedding, what kinds of experiences have you had while planning?
Conclusion
I know that rings (and wedding planning) can be a source of stress, but they are also symbols of love and commitment. I genuinely appreciate any insights you can share, and of course, I can’t wait to see your stunning rings and hear your engagement stories!
Let’s chat below! 💖💬

My Jared engagement ring broke 8 times in 2 years. There was always something wrong with it (diamonds falling out, the entire center stone + setting falling off, etc.). They ultimately determined the structural integrity was flawed and let me trade it in, which sucks because now I don’t have my original ring (same center stone, but still!).
Tl;dr – don’t shop at Jared.
Years ago, I worked in diamonds wholesale. The owner only sent our lowest quality diamonds to big box stores. If you can return it, I would do it. I’d recommend using a local jeweler, in addition to likely a better product, they likely will deliver a better price.

Just call Jarred and make an appointment, drive the 2 hours. These things happen. They will fix it for you. Once anyone else messes with it your warranty is void. It shouldn’t take much time for them to fix it. Explain your wedding is in two weeks and they will fix it while you have lunch. I had a ring custom made by them and I wanted it a little bigger about a week after I picked it up and they did it while I waited.
Remember: you get what you pay for.
I’m not sure if its just the way its on your finger, but it also looks set a little crooked?
Edit: The top of the Diamond as you’re wearing it in the picture, is leaning ever so slightly to the left, and the bottom left prong is positioned closer to the band than the one on the bottom right.
I’m surprised at all the bad experiences with Jared. While I don’t shop at Jared I do shop at Kay from time to time. I’ve never had an issues with my pieces. I sometimes buy the protection plan sometimes not (depends on the piece). I will say Kay always sends my stuff in and returns it promptly. I had a half ctw anniversary band that got smashed (long story) diamond fell out and I was so sad. Took it to Kay and had it repaired and the diamond replaced in 2 weeks. I didn’t have the protection plan so it did cost me $100 but I didn’t need anything else done to it. I had that ring 8 years before I upgraded.
I’ve had 2 Diamond tennis bracelets with 0 issues. I’ve had a previous ring that only needed sizing due to me losing weight.
I will say I do go every 6 months to get my diamonds/settings checked to keep them covered. Those checks are free and they do a nice cleaning as well.
Do I think they can be overpriced? Sure but I do only buy around Christmas time so the price isn’t bad. I also go to the same 2 locations (1 in AZ and 1 in Wa as I live between two states) which probably helps as they know me there but honestly it shouldn’t matter.
I think you should send it in and have them fix it and get the warranty.
OR return/exchange it for the correct size.
Last option if you couldn’t care less about dealing with them due to hassle and being far. Then I would see a local jeweler for repairs. Sometimes turn around can be faster.
This thread is validating – my fiancé said he went to Jared when he was shopping for my ring and got a super weird vibe from them. Walked out and said nope.
OP, if you can get a full refund, do that, especially if you’re ok with not having the ring as your wedding! Then shop around and get something of higher quality somewhere else.
My partner and I went to Jared before we went to a local company for my engagement ring.
JARED SIZED ME TWO SIZES TOO SMALL.
THEY ALSO WERE TRYING TO SELL US A “real diamond” that had a price tag sticker saying “lab grown diamond”.
Personally, I would return it for a refund and go somewhere else.
Jared is just a pain in the butt to deal with.
The size is way too big. People will think its a cz if that matters. Unless you’re driving a range rover.
I’d return it and go to that other local jewelry shop and get a new ring
Return it. If you want something unique from a small business owned, I HIGHLY recommend Oore Jewelry. I got my ring from her and I love it so much
I would certainly question their Customer Service. How on earth do they think YOU altered the ring, and why would they suspect a jeweler would? They should be stnading by the products they sell…..if it were me…I might be telling them I want a refund…and buy one elsewhere from some place that values you as a customer.
Return it if you can and go to Blue Nile
We had great luck at James Allen
This is why you go with Shane Co., free lifetime warranty more than worth it
I’ll tell you that 4 prongs aren’t enough to hold a 3 carat diamond securely. I’d either have additional prongs added for a total of 6 or return the ring entirely.
return and go through a good local jeweler. i wouldn’t buy from a big box store. the most complaints I see are from people that buy from a big chain.
Hey so Jared sucks and he probably way overpaid for that ring. I got my ring elsewhere that was priced triple at Jared for a lower rated diamond. This same thing has happened to many people I know. Get your money back if you can and run.
This is very much a stereotype but they don’t have. Great reputation so I would probably get it fixed somewhere else and cut your losses. Unless you can return it to them and get your money back if you prefer that route
Do you have consumer protection laws or a governing body you can complain to?
Have the local store that was honest with you fix the ring. Jared will most likely screw it up. And I would never trust a company that treated me this way, or leave my ring with them.
Pay the local company & never go back to Jared or any chain jewelry store again.
Return it. Never shop there again. Go somewhere else last minute or buy a fake one from Amazon and get a new real one asap. Never deal with Jared, they’re such a headache.
Return it.
As a person who works at Jared’s did you guys get the warranty? If you did there should be no issues. But if you didn’t that might be a bit different. You should take it to Kay’s if Jared’s isn’t close enough and see if they can help. Sometimes if it’s a minor issue depending on the manager at Jared’s and if they have a shop that can take it in on site they can do it same day. I don’t see this happen very often on my shifts so it’s something to see if you could call the general manager for. Because you might be able to get a replacement if it’s within 30 days. And this is a big might.
