I dinged up a pink tourmaline and diamond ring. The stone is now worthless as I tried to sell it. Such a bummer. Wear your your ring at night. That’s what i do with my right hand cocktail rings.
Just wear a dupe or something off Amazon while you’re in the baby years. That’s what I do. Still get to see some sparkle but don’t have to stress.
I have had my emerald engagement ring for 30 years. Other than not wearing it on the beach, or if using any abrasive products, I never take it off. that includes getting 3 kids in and out of car seats over the years. it still looks great.
A good solution is you want a colored stone is to get a sapphire in the desired color. I have a green sapphire and people always think its an emerald anyways 🤷🏾♀️
I have a Sapphire and it’s holding up well to everything, and my LO is 10 months. I think if you’re going for a non diamond just check the Mohs hardness scale- my cousin got an opal that cracked from her reaching into the freezer on a hot summer day. Also check to see if your stone will get cloudy over time- one stone notorious for this is Morganite. If you’re going for a softer stone a bezel set is the way to go, that will protect your stone the most (good choice OP). If you like the look of little stones set along your band, I highly recommend considering channel-set stones. Otherwise the stones share prongs so resizing or adjusting after losing a stone increases the chances of losing another stone.

Emeralds are kind of delicate. If you want a non-diamond, stick to sapphire or moissanite for this reason. They should be durable enough even though they aren’t diamonds.
For what it’s worth, I have a diamond engagement ring and I didn’t even find that practical with a baby or young toddler either. When I was a stay at home parent with a baby I didn’t wear my rings because I was changing diapers all day. Then even with a potty trained toddler I hardly wore my rings because I was lifting my child all day, which isn’t great on rings. I would say it only became practical for me to wear my rings again when my child went into daycare full time.
These are ours. We have ordered them in 925 Sterling silver and we can’t for them to arrive.
The main stone is alexandrite and in one the accent stones are moissanite.
I’m actually not a fan of diamond.

Honestly it’s in a bezel setting, it’s insured. You can’t tell if there are any inclusions in the actual emerald itself (from the photo), that would be my concern with everyday wear (if you hit the stone at the wrong angle and there was some type of inclusion, it’s more likely to chip/shatter/break that way), but I wouldn’t be overly concerned.

I’ve had these longevity concerns myself as my ring is a green garnet, but it’s secondhand and hallmarked to 2001 – so it’s lived a life before me and is still in stunning condition. That is to say, your emerald is gorgeous and the bezel setting looks safe and secure, so I’m sure your ring is much more durable than you may fear!
Solid ring, captive stone. I would rate that for daily wear.
I always admired my grandmother’s rings they were imperfect from daily wear and tear but still so beautiful and and perfect in their own way. Literally worn down from wear.
I have captive stones on my wedding band, my wife has claws but that’s what matches our style and our activities.
Don’t be afraid to let your ring grow with you it’s part of the journey and yours looks built for battle, I wouldn’t be concerned in the slightest about your ring seeing daily wear. let it gain some personality of it’s own and tell it’s own story. If you keep it bubble wrapped it’s not really sharing the journey with you.
Just to be clear, scratches and blemishes are your own touch. Nobody is perfect, let that baby see the world don’t hide it away. Be proud of it, enjoy it and tell your partner you love it by showing it your world.

If I ever get married, I would want a purple sapphire. I love amethyst, but a sapphire would be able to take more abuse.
I love alexandrite, but that’s very expensive.

My wedding ring is a sapphire, and 18k gold. It is over 20 years old, I have worn it almost daily, and it looks great. The stone is due for a polish, but honestly it has held up wonderfully. I do wear it on my left hand, which is my nondominant hand. And I designed a low profile ring. I have two kiddos, and I always wore my ring on a daily basis. Never to the gym or pool, but otherwise yes! As Joan Didion said, every day is all there is.
It’s a fabulous ring.
But if the priority is practicality, how about getting a simple plain band for daily wear and making a custom necklace with the same design and type of stone (bezel Emerald, yellow gold)? That way it would still feel like it’s with you, but without getting damaged, so you could also wear it everyday.
Oh it’s not just non diamonds. My first ring is a diamond and stopped wearing it because it would fish hook everything and I didn’t want to scratch the kids. I mostly wear a plain band at home.
Well this ring is absolutely incredible!!! Seems like you just need a second ring for daily use & this one for slightly nicer occasions 🙂
