I think it’s perfect. I don’t think you should do a thinner band, especially with the size of the stone.

I love the prongs and the thickness of the band! I have a 2ct radiant solitaire and I wish my band was a bit thicker like this.

Beautiful ring! To me, it looks perfect as-is! Very classy.

So you made yourself an engagement ring? Girl if you’re that picky just give him that one to use, have him pay for the claw prong add on and be done with it. At least you’ll know you like it.

When men are given inspiration even to the T there is always a chance they’ll get something wrong, or add something unwanted. I can see the writing on the wall of being unsatisfied, and you don’t want two of the same ring, that would be kind of well as you asked, crazy. The only time you might need a replica is if you do rugged work with your hands or international and adventure style travel.

You asked so…this stone is too big and the cut isn’t the best for your finger shape and length. Take the weight down to 1ct and go with a cushion cut.

You’ve made yourself an engagement ring, why didn’t you get him involved from the beginning and design it together to be your final engagement ring? You could have gone try on stones together, show him what you like, and having him making the final purchase. That being said, I like the end product! I would just give it to him to get the claws adjusted and use it. Maybe you want a bigger stone? Ok just pick it together!

Man do not understand well these kind of instructions. If you are that picky you might as well just pick it together. From my own personal experience 😉

If this is a temp ring, why didn’t you guys just design a ring together instead?

Since you mentioned how picky you are.

Wouldn’t that be easier than making a totally different ring?

You guys could have tried on a few to get an idea then go from there.

Very experienced ring wearer of all shapes of rings.

I don’t see how the diamond setting is on your hand, so this comment may be moot. It’s a beautiful ring, but my concern is how the prongs may rise/fall during everyday wear. Are the prongs likely to catch on sweaters or other types of looser clothing, and other everyday tasks? Your ring should be able to worn 24 hours a day. Just from the picture, it looks like it could catch on bedsheets.

Okay so yes I commented before but I’m genuinely curious why you didn’t just go ring “shopping” together like most couples? Then you have an array of sizes and shapes and bands etc to try out instead of spending money.

Why does he have to do anything? You already did it. You’re not “picky”. You’re a bossy control freak. Do you always suck the joy out of everything for everyone else?

You could have just went shopping with him.

On a separate note, what exactly did you design here? This is a basic marquis solitaire. You could walk into any jewelry store and find this preassembled in the case. What did you “design”?

This stone shape doesn’t suit your hand as nicely as other cuts may. Return the stone and go shopping with your partner.

You bought a whole ass diamond and 14 karat gold and made it into a ring. THAT is your engagement ring lol I’m not entirely sure why you had a ring made when you could’ve gone ring shopping with him. So what are you going to do with the ring now if he doesn’t use it as your engagement ring?

It seems like you went about this in a very roundabout way but to each their own! If it were me I would just tell my partner that “hey, when the time comes, I have a ring made that I want you to use. I’m going to leave it with you and when you’re ready, you can give it me”.

Is this just a temporary ring? Or are you looking for him to make addition to this ring?

I did read through the comments but didn’t see this asked/answered. He knows about this ring and sounds like he paid for it. There are a lot of vendors on Amazon/etsy/reddit that sell ‘travel rings’ that aren’t real diamonds – I ordered 2 off amazing to get a feel for different shapes on my finger for a few days. If he isn’t adding to this ring, what will you do with this if he has to buy a second ring??

Ok I’m the last person to criticize being particular. Husband and I shopped together and picked a jeweler, then I made every decision down to the millimeter for how my ring would look. We ordered it, he picked it up, he proposed.

But we did all that together and were on the same page throughout.

And am I understanding correctly that you secretly bought an actual diamond and had it set in actual gold… just to see how you like it? And then you’re planning to tell him about it so he can get you a similar one (but maybe a larger stone)? What happens to the secret non-engagement ring you made yourself? I’m sorry, I’m not trying to be judgy and I know you’re getting a lot of heat but this situation is just…baffling

You’re designing a ring without him at all, paying for it yourself, all just so you can show him what you like? So you’re spending money on actual diamonds just to make an inspo ring? Then your boyfriend is supposed to make a duplicate to propose and then you’ll have two rings?

And all this effort just for you to get a classic solitaire that’s available literally anywhere and doesn’t require customization…?

This is how your post reads. Perhaps your phrased things incorrectly?

You could have gone to try rings with your partner, see and try on what shapes and carat you’d prefer rather than spend money on a stone and then a setting that you weren’t gonna use to begin with. 😒

This came up on my feed and I stopped and thought “aww ring twins” because I have this exact ring. I think people are being a tad harsh but also just give this one to him to propose. It’s the same as going shopping together.

My husband and I went together to ring shop. I chose the ring I liked and that wouldn’t get in the way (I work with my hands). If you know what you want, make a date of it and go together. It didn’t take away from anything knowing what the ring would look like and I was so excited to wear them!

I’m sorry but I don’t think that stone looks good on your hand. The shape doesn’t suit the shape on your hand.

Just design it together with a jeweler as a team? That’s what I did.

This is certainly a different approach compared to the standard we see in this subreddit. But to each their own, and all y’all are behaving like animals in here. OP you’re not crazy, you want to be certain you know what you want. A little odd to have essentially already made a ring with all the same materials, but if you’ve the time and means I don’t see why it should be considered nutters. I hope you find what you’re looking for/love and you and your partner have a lifetime of happiness!

When I was in nursing school, I was in a patient room assisting the doctor with a procedure. It was about an hour later that I realized my precious engagement ring was gone. I absolutely lost it. I could not stop crying. I couldn’t be sure which room I had been in. I was prepared to search through all the trash cans, but they all had been taken to incineration. I was so devastated. My husband and I had picked out that ring together. Fast forward to now. I have a milestone birthday coming up, as well as our 25th anniversary. He told me one day that he thought it was time to get a new engagement ring!! He told me to pick it out and choose whatever I wanted. I did hours of research and finally found “the one”! It is a 2 carat bezel with a cushion cut diamond and a platinum ring. We went back and forth about natural diamond vs. lab diamond. I learned that lab diamonds are chemically identical to natural diamonds, and I didn’t want to have to worry about the conditions of the way a natural diamonds would be obtained. I showed a picture of it to my husband before i ordered it, and he loved it. Once the ring arrived, he arranged for our twins to scatter rose petals all over our great room and he got down on one knee and proposed again. Our twins could hardly contain their excitement!! 🥰💍

P.S. – OP … You are not crazy!! We should absolutely have some input on an expensive piece of jewelry that we will be wearing for the rest of our lives. Don’t listen to the haters!
