Brilliant Earth Review: Engaging in Deceptive Practices to Retain Your Funds

Brilliant Earth Review: Did They Commit Fraud to Keep Your Money?

Welcome to our community space dedicated to all things engagement rings! Today, I want to stir the pot a bit with a topic that’s been making the rounds—Brilliant Earth, a retailer known for its ethically sourced gems and stunning designs. However, some users have expressed a growing concern: are they committing fraud to keep your money?

The Allure of Ethical Diamonds

Brilliant Earth has carved a niche for itself in the diamond industry by promoting ethical practices. Their rings often come with a hefty price tag, designed for those who want to align their purchases with their values. But as with any luxury item, the stakes are high. Recent discussions have sparked some serious allegations regarding service and transparency.

The Allegations

  1. Customer Service Concerns: Reports indicate that several customers have had difficulty receiving timely support regarding their orders. This has led to claims of unreachable service representatives and inadequate follow-ups. Is this an isolated issue, or is it indicative of deeper organizational problems?

  2. Return and Refund Policies: Rumors are swirling that some users have struggled to get their money back due to “hidden” clauses within their return policies. If a customer is unhappy with their purchase, it should be straightforward to return the item. But are there loopholes being used to maintain revenue?

  3. Misleading Information: Customers have alleged they received misinformation about the characteristics of the gems—specifically regarding clarity, cut, and even the provenance of the stones. While marketing may exaggerate the beauty of a gem, is this a standard practice for Brilliant Earth?

Share Your Experiences

I know many of you have strong opinions and experiences with Brilliant Earth, whether positive or negative. If you’ve shopped there, I’d love to hear your stories. Did the rings live up to the promises made? Did you encounter any issues during your purchase, or perhaps had a flawless experience?

Educational Tidbits

For those who are considering a purchase from Brilliant Earth (or any gem retailer, for that matter), here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Understanding GIA Ratings: Knowing the grading system for diamonds can help ensure you’re getting what you pay for. Familiarize yourself with the 4 Cs: Cut, Clarity, Color, and Carat.

  • Explore Other Retailers: Have you discovered other ethical retailers that offer similar quality without the hassle? The community would benefit from your insights!

  • Celebrating Unique Styles: Whether you appreciate vintage or modern styles, this community is a perfect place to showcase your rings! Feel free to share photos and the details of your engagement rings—did you choose Brilliant Earth, or go with another vendor?

Conclusion

Engagement rings symbolize a significant moment in life, and choosing the right retailer should be a joyous experience—not one marred by frustration. If you’ve had dealings with Brilliant Earth, your contributions to this discussion could help others avoid pitfalls or find the gem of their dreams.

Let’s get the conversation started! What are your thoughts on Brilliant Earth? Share your engagement ring stories, questions, and advice below! 💍✨

Go on X (Twitter) and start blasting them. Their social media teams are usually on the ball and they can get other departments to move to avoid anymore bad press.

I am so sorry you’re dealing with this, but I hope you take them to the cleaners.

Also maybe get a new credit card because Amex fucked you over too.

i work in complaint resolution (eta not for BE), primarily pre-litigation and active litigation.

file an AG complaint. if nothing is fixed from that, hire an attorney and send in a demand letter. if they still refuse, file a small claims case. there is no way you wouldn’t win if you do not have possession of the ring. claim damages in your case for the attorneys fees and filing fees.

most places want to avoid a loss in claims, so they will likely try and settle to avoid litigation. good luck – sorry this is happening to you

I bought a bracelet from them, still haven’t received it. They paid for the cheapest possible shipping apparently and now it’s lost somewhere in the middle of the country. Thought I bought it with enough time to get it and ship it with gifts for Christmas. I don’t even think I will see a resolution of where it’s disappeared to before Christmas. Won’t buy from them again. Is what happens during shipping necessarily their fault? If they pay for the cheapest ever? Yes. Same day I ordered from Shane Co and those items came in with no issues within the week. 🤷‍♀️ Hell, I ordered a custom bed frame for my son that ships from another country a week ago and that will arrive before I even get a resolution for a freaking in stock, no customization bracelet.

Bottom line- BE sucks. Shane Co stuff came and was GREAT quality. Will probably just order a replacement from them while I have to go through everything with BE.

Did you spend more than $10k? If not, I would suggest you consider small claims. Small claims in my state is up to $10k, and the cases are public, so even big companies don’t like to have them filed. I would strongly suggest you do that, it’s really easy to file.

Thank you so much for detailing your experience. I was very close to purchasing several items with them, so I will stay well clear now. Make a big stink for sure, post on LinkedIn and reach out to their management on there too. Also reach out to your local newspaper and online newspapers like DailyMail to share your experience. Try to get as much exposure to your experience because as a consumer I need to know this and the level of service is inexcusable. To deny a refund under these circumstances is egregious.

I’m very puzzled by Amex here actually. You literally have a document that was signed after May, saying BE took the ring in for repair. Is there some weird unclear phrasing in the document? Or is Amex saying that they will not do the chargeback because you must accept the defective ring?

Brilliant earth is absolute trash. Mass produced and poorly made jewelry at inflated prices. Chain jewelers like BE typically base their business model off of upcharging customers that don’t know the value of what they’re buying.

I’m sorry this is happening to you. I worked for BE for a few years and the way they treat their employees is just as despicable as how they treat their customers. I can’t tell you how many times customers came in reasonably frustrated with a situation like yours and the employees had to take the brunt of the frustration because BE isn’t willing to stand by their product or their employees.

At this point. I do think making a stink on social media is the way to go about resolving this. It sucks because as a consumer you shouldn’t have to do this but the ONLY thing BE cares about is its public image. They like to be known as an ethical company, which they’re obviously not. Good luck! I hope you get your money back!

File a complaint with the AG of your state and let them know you’re going to do so. Sometimes that lights a fire under their butt to fix their mistake.
