I adore my ring…but is the setting crafted properly?

“I Love My Ring… Is My Setting Done Well?”

Hey everyone!

I hope you’re all having a fantastic day! As someone who recently got engaged, I’m beyond excited to share my engagement ring with all of you. 💍 It’s a symbol of love, commitment, and that special moment when I said “yes.” But here’s the thing: I find myself wondering if my ring’s setting is done well.

This got me thinking about how important the setting is to the overall beauty and longevity of an engagement ring. So, I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences!

Picture Perfect: Show Off Your Rings!

To kick things off, here’s my engagement ring. [Insert Image Here] What do you think of the setting? I fell in love with the halo design, but I can’t help but wonder if it’s as secure as it looks or if I should be concerned about the stones getting loose over time.

The Importance of Setting

The setting of a ring does far more than just hold the stone in place. It plays a key role in enhancing the gem’s brilliance and can completely change the character of the ring. Here are some things I’ve learned about various settings:

  1. Prong Settings: These allow maximum light to enter the stone, making it sparkle more, but they also expose the gem to potential damage. Are prongs worth the risk?

  2. Bezel Settings: These encase the stone completely, offering superior protection. Are they less eye-catching, though?

  3. Pavé Settings: These feature multiple small diamonds that add extra shimmer but can be tricky in terms of maintenance. Does anyone have tips on keeping them looking pristine?

Your Experience Matters!

I know many of you have unique journeys with your engagement rings, and each ring tells a story. Whether you’ve purchased a vintage piece, designed your own, or inherited a family heirloom, let’s discuss!

  • What type of setting do you have, and why did you choose it?
  • How has your ring held up over time? Any maintenance tips?
  • What are some aspects of a setting you wish you knew beforehand?

Learning from Each Other

Beyond just sharing our rings, I believe this can be a fantastic opportunity for education. Whether you’re a gem aficionado or just beginning to navigate the world of rings, your insights can help someone make wiser choices.

Let’s also chat about the different gems, cuts, and materials! Have you learned something surprising about a specific gemstone that changed your perspective?

Don’t Be Shy!

If you’re shy about posting a picture, don’t be! Share what you love about your ring and any concerns you might have about the setting. This community is a safe space for sharing, discussing, and celebrating our love stories.

So, what’s the final verdict on my ring? And don’t forget to share your own beautiful bands! I can’t wait to see all your lovely pieces and hear your thoughts!

Happy sharing! 💖

It looks to me like the prongs weren’t cut properly. The way the stone is sitting in the groove in the prong, resting on a kind of “corner,” means that it could slip out or even chip. Get it to a jeweler asap.

This is a peg-head (pre-made) soldered onto a gold band. The setting (too big) doesn’t fit your stone and you really need a gallery rail — if one prong loosens you will lose the whole stone. I’d get this redone.

I’m so glad you love it but, to be honest with you, the head is far too big for your stone and it is precariously set at best. Luckily, your setting looks to permit changing the head to something more suited to your stone. PLEASE have a consultation to discuss options with a reputable jeweler. I’m not sure I would even take it back to the one who set this out of sheer fear. As it is now, it’s not an if but a major when you lose the stone. Good luck to you and congrats on your engagement!

Prongs are not holding the diamond correctly! Get your money back and take your ring to a more reputable jeweler to set the stone! 100% it will fall out of the current setting at some point t

beautiful stone but this ring was not made well. your stone doesn’t fit that setting AND they soldered the setting sloppily onto a band. this isn’t going to hold up well at all, please take it to another jeweler and get your money back.

Unfortunately, the seats are uneven (where the girdle of the diamond sits), so the stone looks slightly crooked especially in the second picture. It also looks like they didn’t finish the prongs with a cup bur so that the entire prong is in contact with the diamond. Also, the head looks a bit too large.

It looks like the head is made for a round diamond that is deeper cut than an oval. You should have the head replaced with more secure prongs. The diamond is beautiful!

The stone will fall out. It’s not a matter of if but when.

Please get it fixed to be more secure (the jewelers should be able to offer suggestions and options). If you don’t trust them, get it fixed at a different vendor

What did you tell the jeweler you wanted? While this is not well set by any stretch of the imagination, I’m concerned you’re going to be really frustrated if you take it somewhere else and tell them to “fix it”, if you selected this style of mounting (meaning four prongs, set high, in white metal, no gallery rail) and it essentially looks like the same setting except for the prongs actually being well set. People saying it’s a peg head also don’t help as some like that look, it’s a style choice. What is it that you want, do you want a lower setting? A gallery rail? 4 or 6 prongs? Round or claw tips? Cathedral setting? If you want this ring just set well I’d go back to the original jeweler and ask them to re-set it. If you would like a different mounting all together, ask for a refund and your diamond back and start fresh with another jeweler.

This isn’t the correct setting for that stone size. Needs a gallery rail.
The craftsmanship is horrible. Setting just plopped on a shank, wonky prongs.

Advice is to attempt a refund and find another jeweler.

I would take it somewhere else..it’s just too many red flags for me to trust that jeweller. It’s not symmetrical or straight or polished, the lines have no harmony, it’s like a kids drawing I’m sorry 😔😅😭 If you go somewhere else, have a look at a classic standard like a tiffany setting, it’s a good reference to show a jeweller. It sounds like you’re not looking for an extravagant style, but rather for your diamond to be well-set and to shine. So I would recommend that. It still will protrude, but not comically

This is a head for a much deeper stone – the stone high up in the air like that is very insecure – you should not be able to see that amount of air under the culet

Oh my lord I wouldn’t even give this a day before you lose the stone. Not only is it way too high in the air, there is no support bar AND the stone sits wonky! It needs a new setting asap

I’m a jeweler – there is nothing structurally wrong with the setting so to say it is actually better than the necessary minimum-however the stone is not properly set (the good news is that any experienced jeweler can fix it for you very easily since there is a ton of prong left) if it is a lab diamond that is all it really needs – just to be re set …. If it is a natural diamond there may be some other options worth exploring as well

I’m so glad you love it, it’s beautiful! But..

I’m worried it’ll fall out or catch on something!

    Oh… oh baby.

    Thats uhhhh.

Thats certainly a way you can do it.
Is it the way most of us would do it? No.
Is it an acceptable way? Sure.
But is it the standard? No.

So the type of setting looks like it is supposed to be for a round. Mine is round and has four prongs, but as you can see. Everything is pretty securely attached and the diamond sits in the setting completely and doesn’t have a gap between the diamond and the bottom. The solder job does look poor as well. You should likely go for a basket setting as shown in the last pic I attached after my ring pic

Oh darling, this is a ring that you only where when you are looking pretty and doing absolutely nothing else but bringing a vibe to everyone.

It’s beautiful but the foundation of the ring is shit.
