Is my new ring too snug?

Is My New Ring Too Tight? Let’s Talk Fit, Comfort, and Bling!

Hey there, fellow ring aficionados! ✨ I just got engaged (YAY!) and of course, my fiancé chose the most stunning ring I’ve ever seen. However, there’s one little hiccup—I’m starting to wonder if it’s a tad too tight. 😬

Let’s dive into this! Here are some key questions to consider:

  1. How Should an Engagement Ring Fit?
Ideally, an engagement ring should feel snug but not constricting. You should be able to slide it on and off with a bit of resistance over your knuckle, but it should not feel like it’s cutting off circulation! If you can’t move it around freely or if it’s leaving a mark on your skin after taking it off, that might be a sign it’s a bit too tight.

  2. Heat and Cold: The Ring’s Mood Swings
Have you noticed how your fingers can swell in the heat but shrink in the cold? This fluctuation can make your ring feel tight one minute and loose the next. If you got your ring during cooler weather, it might feel tighter when your fingers swell in warmer temps.

  3. The Long-Term Game: Size vs. Comfort
If you think the ring is uncomfortably tight, it might be worth considering resizing. A comfortable fit today means you’ll be able to enjoy twinkling away for years to come without discomfort! Many jewelers offer resizing services, sometimes even for free when you purchase the ring from them.

  4. Sharing Your Experience
Here’s where you come in! Have you ever experienced this dilemma? How did you handle it? Did you opt for resizing, or did you make peace with your snug fit?

  5. Show Off Your Engagement Rings!
While we’re at it, I’d LOVE to see your rings! Let’s get a thread going where everyone shares pics of their bling. Are there specific cuts, settings, or gemstone choices that you found worked well in terms of comfort and style?

  6. Future Purchases
For those of you who are still on the hunt for the perfect engagement ring—what factors are you considering for fit? Will you ensure it’s the right size before making the purchase, or are you open to resizing later?

Wrapping It Up: Community Wisdom
I feel like we can all benefit from sharing our insights and experiences. So, what are your thoughts? Is a tight ring a simple fix, or should we embrace our custom snug fits with confidence? Let’s support each other with advice, experiences, and of course, a little bling envy! 💍✨

Looking forward to hearing all your stories!

I should also state my previous ring was much thicker! It was about twice this width. *It won’t let me edit the original post?*

Definitely too tight. It should be able to come off with some resistance – comfortably but not easily.

If it’s that tight, maybe even 7.5. Try the ring sizers the jeweler has in the store, if you can. It definitely shouldn’t hurt you! Beautiful ring though.

Easy fix. Get a cheap 7.25 and wear it for a week. Does it fit better? Does it fall off? Is it too tight? That’ll give you your answer.

Definitely too tight. Your ring finger even looks a little more red than the fingers around it.

Your ring is absolutely stunning! Congratulations! Also, yes, it’s too tight. I would guess you need to go up by 0.25 to 0.5 sizes. I’m not sure if you’re planning to add a wedding ring to this, but you’ll probably need to go up at least a 1/4 size to accommodate that. It should come off comfortably- not slip off easily, but you shouldn’t have to struggle and you shouldn’t feel it pulling on your tendons. Good luck!

    Hi!
Just to add — when I walk, exercise, ride on a plane, EATING SALT, my fingers swell really badly. My current size ring is perfect, but my finger has literally turned purple if I don’t take it off to go for a walk.

Your ring at its current size won’t give you room for the swelling that comes with just existing 😂

I agree with the other comments that it’ll get even worse when you want to stack your engagement ring and wedding band.

See if you can size up, just a teeny tiny bit!

From pics it does look a bit too tight, but i will say that my ring felt uncomfortable for the first 3-4 ish days of wearing it. Now its so comfortable that it feels weird when im NOT wearing it. So when it is properly sized don’t worry if it doesnt feel perfect right away!

Please go get it resized. Our hands tend to swell. I’ve never heard of the no knuckle sizing idea.

Yes. Especially if your hands swell. Although “muffin top” is flesh overhang on pants, I’m not sure how your hands feel like that.

Get the ring made a bit bigger.
You don’t want to have it sawed off.
How does your wedding ring fit around the ring?

Well, all rings look too tight on some hands. My fingers look exactly the same even when the rings are perfectly my size. Does it feel tight to you? That’s what matters more than how it looks to others. I have a slight muffin top even when I am wearing a slightly loose ring. Thanks!

How can Reddit answer that for you? Does it feel too tight? Remember your finger size is gonna change throughout your cycle and your fingers will grow as your age especially your knuckles so there is that to consider.

It’s beautiful. Is the stone alexandrite or sapphire? My ring is also too small bc I have big knuckles once I get it past my knuckle it fits okay but then o can’t get it off. I need to have it resized just a tad so it doesn’t spin around on my had.

This was in the morning when my hands are the most swollen. I hardly wear it bc it’s just too tight. I love how thick your band is.

I think it may benefit to size up to the next .25 like you originally suggested. It appears to be a little snug. It will feel better on your hand; a ring shouldn’t hurt to wear.😔

I also have no knuckles. Rings should be snug, not digging in. It sucks because fingers shrink and swell depending on temperature and other things, which means rings will often be too loose or tight.
