Ring Set Too High? Let’s Discuss!
Hey everyone! šāØ
As we dive deeper into the world of engagement rings, one topic that often comes up is the height of the ring setting. Have you ever found yourself gazing at your ring and thinking, “Is this set too high?” Or maybe you’ve admired a friend’s ring and wondered how that height would feel on your finger. Today, I want to open up a discussion about ring heights, what they mean for style and wearability, and why they matter to you.
The Aesthetic Appeal
Many brides-to-be dream of a stunning engagement ring, and the height of the setting can drastically affect the overall look. High settings can give a dramatic flare, making a diamond or gemstone appear larger and more prominent. They often catch the light beautifully, creating dazzling sparkles. However, high settings can sometimes come with their own set of challenges.
The Practical Side
Have you ever bumped your ring against something while washing your hands or typing on a keyboard? High settings can be prone to snagging or getting caught on clothing, which can be annoying or even damaging. That said, it all depends on your lifestyle! If you lead an active life, a lower setting might be the way to go.
Personal Experience
Iāve seen some incredible rings posted here, and Iād love to hear your stories! Are you a fan of the classic solitaire with a higher setting or do you lean towards more of a low-profile design? Perhaps you’ve purchased or even inherited an amazing ring with a unique setting height ā whatās your take on its wearability?
- High Settings: Perfect for that bling factor but can sometimes feel less secure.
- Low Settings: Sleeker and easier to wear daily, but may not have that “wow” factor.

Happy posting, everyone!

Yeahā¦.thats really high. I personally would not be satisfied with it staying like this.
Yes and why are the prongs so angular, flat, and thick??
So high and no gallery rail makes me super nervous as to the stone flying outā¦
WTF, Lolol thatās the Empire State Building on your ring. WAYYY to high. You need a low peg head for this ring
Itās giving ring pop
Omg why do jewelers do this?? Iām sorry. Make them fix it.Ā
I feel like I’ve been seeing this more and more on this sub!! And it never has a gallery rail lol
Agreed, this setting can be a hell of a lot better. I would not be happy with this either. It seems a little wonky too? Maybe its the angle the photo was taken but it looks like its leaning a bit to the right.
Yes, it will may get caught on many things and the prongs can be compromised, esp if white gold; not to mention if its the least bit loose, weight is all on top which the stone will roll around your finger. Take it back.
Way too high and please ask for a gallery rail
I’d be so nervous about hitting it the wrong way and bending the prong head. You’d be better with a cathedral setting set lower.
Yikes! It’s not too high if you’re using it as a weapon. I can’t believe the jeweler let you take it out of the store like that. They should fix it. It will snag and poke everything.
If Mount Everest was turned upside down and put on a ring, it would be this
I consider mine kinda high⦠this is like Everest
And being that it only has 4 prongs, youāre bound to knock it and possibly lose that diamond. Itās gonna catch on every sweater, scratch your husband/kids, and hit everything. Itās pretty but not practical if you really plan to wear it daily.
Yes. It looks like a cartoon ring.
You will catch it on everything and scratch the heck out of yourself, partner and babies. Itās too high for practical reasons. I also prefer 6 prongs to four.
I have this same ring from Shane co. Or at least the same style. This is way too high. Mine is not this high and if it was any higher, it would be a problem. It already catches on things. This will be a problem!Ā
I couldnāt wear this everyday. Way too high.
Way too high. Why so high?
My ring looks similar and Iāve been so self conscious of it!! I originally bought a low set ring but the prong fell off so I sent it back to an online store to be replaced which they comped back in 2021! But when they sent it back it looked like this. Iām in the process of having mine reset lower again because I was embarrassed of it the last few years.
I would insist on them fixing that immediately! Omg I would destroy that ring after one wearāŗļøI would be hitting it on everything
It’s a peg head setting, it’s very common as a standard type of setting but is often not customized to the stone. In this case it also looks very bad. Honestly, I’d return it if you can and go to a jeweler that isn’t a big chain, with someone who will walk you through the process, create a CAD before making a ring, etc. You want more of a basket setting, something that fits your stone without being so high as to look ridiculous.
Ooof. Thatās really high. Prongs look off too.
It cant really be set any lower in that specific setting but yes its really bulky and overall too high
This made me audibly laugh out loud. Why would any jeweler think this is willingly okay? lol
Not gonna lie it looks terrible
It looks a bit ridiculous, sorry. Impractical, and YES way too high
I started laughing. How did they think this is acceptable?
Itās a stamped peg head. Unfortunately these have those square angular prongs, and typically set the stone very high. You can go with a custom head which will look a lot nice and set the diamond lower, but these are more costly.
We just returned my engagement ring that looked so very similar to this and are having a custom ring made instead. Imo it was obnoxiously high and seemed to be in the way most of the time. I was so worried that the diamond would fall out. I took the advice to have a wider band, gallery, lower setting, and European shank in my customization.
