Is This a Good Deal for $850? Let’s Discuss Engagement Rings!

Hello, fellow ring enthusiasts! 💍

I recently came across a stunning engagement ring, and I couldn’t resist the urge to share it with you all. Priced at $850, it has sparked my curiosity about whether this is truly a good deal or if I should keep looking. Here’s what I found:

The Details:

  • Center Stone: 1.00-carat round diamond
  • Cut: Ideal cut with excellent symmetry
  • Color: G-H (near-colorless)
  • Clarity: VS2 (very slight inclusions)
  • Setting: 14k white gold with delicate pavé setting around the band
  • Certification: GIA-certified (always a good sign!)

Why This Caught My Eye:

  1. Quality of the Stone: The ideal cut means that it should reflect light beautifully, maximizing sparkle. Diamonds that are well-cut often appear larger and more brilliant than their carat weight would suggest.

  2. Certification: GIA certification adds a layer of reassurance. It’s a recognized standard in the industry, signifying that the diamond has been evaluated using established criteria.

  3. Aesthetic Appeal: The pavé setting adds a modern touch, offering a bit of extra sparkle without being overwhelming.

Discussion Points:

Now, I want to hear from you! Is $850 a fair price for a ring with these specifications? Here are some points to consider:

  1. Market Trends: How does this price compare to the current market value for similar rings? Should I be looking into local jewelry stores or online retailers for price comparisons?

  2. Resale Value: If this were to be an investment piece, how would its resale value hold up? Does a setting matter in deciding the future worth?

  3. Ethics of Sourcing: What’s your take on the importance of ethical sourcing? Should I pay more for a sustainably sourced diamond, or is that secondary to the diamond’s beauty and quality?

  4. Personal Preferences: In your opinion, does the style and setting influence your decision more than the diamond itself? How do you balance aesthetic appeal with quality?

  5. Future Purchases: For those of you who have engaged recently, what factors did you consider when buying your rings? Would you have opted for a different cut or metal if given a second chance?

Share Your Thoughts!

I’m excited to hear your insights and to dive into this conversation with all of you! Whether you’ve been through the ring-buying journey yourself or have experiences to share from family and friends, your voices are invaluable in this community.

So, is this a good deal for $850? Let’s get the discussion flowing! ✨

That feels like highway robbery for a .25 carat aquamarine.

Depending on the weight of the setting, yeah, it’s probably fair because gold is so high right now.

The price of gold is really high right now, so this isn’t too ridiculously far off. Sure, you could probably get a better deal on something similar from somewhere else by a hundred or few, but if you’ve found a ring you both love… why penny pinch? I may be in the minority here but I think for a lifetime of joy looking at the ring it should be the one you want and to a certain point, the “best deal” doesn’t matter.

Check out KTRingcraft on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1376973618/?ref=share_ios_native_control

He made my engagement ring and wedding ring. I’m sure he can source aquamarine if that’s what you’re looking for! He made my wedding ring from a reference photo.

It’s a really pretty design, but $850 feels a bit high for a 0.25 ct aquamarine and small accent diamonds. You could probably find something similar in 18k gold for around $500–650 unless it’s handmade or from a well-known jeweler.
