In 2009, one day I slipped on the ice and fell and my left hand broke the fall. My ring finger immediately swelled and I had to go to the emergency room to get my wedding ring cut off. It was so painful and so traumatic that I stopped wearing a wedding ring to this date.
The jewelry shop where we designed our rings was uncomfortably warm, even if they could obviously afford AC. The clerk told us it is because they ensure a proper fitting in order to prevent this.
TBF, that’s not a little snug lol. I’m glad your kept your finger!
And that’s why I don’t wear my eternity band anymore. It’s now a pretty pinkie ring.
I had to get my husband to cut my rings off a few years ago.
When I had my accident I had to have 3 rings cut off and it was my wrist that I’ve broke, 10 months later still not back to usual size. It’s heartbreaking when your precious rings have to be cut off like that, please if you have full eternity style rings please size up to prevent this others can be repaired but full eternity style bands can’t as they can’t be resized. I previously had to have a silver ring cut as it was too small and I got it stuck, and finger was throbbing, whilst I was on holiday many years ago, luckily a jeweller came to my rescue and cut it off, I was always careful and made sure I could take all my rings off regularly, until it was totally out of my control. I’m glad you have not got relief and yes correct sizing is important but try a half size bigger and. Maybe get a temporary reducer if feels too big,that can be removed if your finger swells in the heat. These can be purchased cheaply on amazon and are well worth the cost. Rings are beautiful and sentimental value but your fingers are more important!

one time my cat bit my finger and it swelled up so much that i ended up cutting my rings off. the urgent care doctor offered to do it, but i’m a jeweler so i went home and did it myself, with an actual jeweler saw. obviously not everybody has the luxury of doing that, but it made repairing them so much easier. i’m sorry that you went through this! someone should be able to repair your ring.
i got a ring spacers on amazon for this reason. When i was pregnant my ring fit fine, now post partum my ring is a little loose so i have a little rubber piece to keep it in place. My fingers tend to swell so this was a good option for me
I’ve having kidney problems, and I’ve been using my ring to monitor how much I’m swelling up, and to prove it to doctors. (New doctors don’t know me, and think I’m just fat.)
It has struck me that I might be playing a dangerous game, and may not be able to get the ring off one day.

Been there, done that when pregnant! I still have the ring and have never taken it to have repaired… and my kids are now 22 and 21. I wonder if cut rings can be repaired?
I used to wear a 4. Now I wear a 5 but now and again it’s snug, NOT tight like this photo but enough that I use soap to remove it. 🙂 When you put it on and it’s hard to move, don’t push it the rest of the way on. LOL
This happened to me!
I have a “protection plan” on my rings which has been so smart because I’ve broken them so many times. I have to get them inspected occasionally and went to get them inspected, couldn’t get them off. Got home, started panicking, made the swelling worse—what eventually worked for me was keeping my hand in a bowl of cold water, then liberally applying preparation H. I don’t know if it was the lube factor or the actual effects of the cream but it worked, though not without some pain. My hands swell in the summer, and I was thinner when I got married. After that incident, I got them sized up. They’re a little loose in the winter now, but I no longer worry km going to lose a finger 😉

This is just an FYI for anyone else this happens to, especially those who don’t have medical insurance. Obviously, ER or urgent care is the right choice if your finger has become swollen & discolored like OP’s.
Otherwise. you can also go to the fire department to have this done at no charge. Most jewelers will also do it, for free or low cost, and they can cut it so that it can be repaired or resized after.
Our jeweler for my soon-to-be-hubby said “if you can get it on, you can get it off” in response to his concern about a ring feeling too snug. Thankfully we dismissed that comment and sized up because of the possibility of situations like this!

I swear not enough people realize how much our hands swell and even how different your dominant hand is from the other. As well as how important it is to get a ring made of a material they can easily cut in the ER. Yes titanium and tungsten carbide are cool but not easy to cut off!
