My Ideal Ring: Tips to Stop It from Twisting

My Dream Ring, but How to Prevent Spinning? 💍✨

Hey everyone! 🌟

I’m beyond excited to share my dream engagement ring with you all! After countless hours of scrolling through beautiful designs and learning about different gems, I finally found “the one.” But there’s a little hiccup that I’ve been dealing with—my ring spins!

Here’s My Ring!
Insert a fabulous photo of your ring here—feel free to share the specs: cut, carat weight, setting style, and the gemstone used.

Why Spinning Happens

For those of you who might not know, ring spinning can be caused by several factors. A ring that’s too large, the shape of your finger, or even the design of the ring itself can contribute to the problem. I’ve noticed that while I adore this engagement ring, it tends to rotate on my finger, which can be super frustrating!

What I’ve Tried So Far

I’ve done a little research and tried a couple of things:

  1. Sizing: I went to the jeweler and even got it resized slightly, but it’s still not perfect.
  2. Ring Guards: I’ve considered ring guards or sizing beads, but I’m concerned about them potentially scratching the band or making it uncomfortable.

I’d Love Your Input!

  1. Have you experienced ring spinning? What strategies worked for you to keep your ring in place?

  2. Have you tried any specific rings or settings that naturally prevent spinning? I’ve heard that thicker bands or rings with a heavier design can help, but I’m curious if anyone has direct experience!

  3. Do you think the weight of the gemstone matters? My ring has a pretty hefty stone, but I’m still struggling with how it fits on my finger.

  4. Post your Ring! If you have a ring that you absolutely love and has perfect stability, share a photo! Let’s inspire each other with ideas, designs, and solutions.

Let’s Learn Together!

This community has been so invaluable in discussing various aspects of engagement rings—from cuts to settings and everything in between. What better topic to dive into than how to make sure our dream rings stay where they belong?

Looking forward to hearing your tips, stories, and seeing your stunning rings! 💖

Happy posting!

In my experience it will be tighter and move less once you have a wedding band. Some spinning is to be expected though!

If it’s snug over your knuckle you’re good. You don’t want it too tight as our hands naturally expand in warm weather or if we (god forbid!) gain weight. Maybe try on a 6 and see if you like it? You can also have little ring sizers put in that keep it from spinning. I personally like when it drops to the side a bit- a rings way of being sexy- like a strap falling off a shoulder.

It might just be that the ring is looser when it’s colder out, since finger size can fluctuate with temperature changes. My ring spins around a bit too, but I’m hesitant to size it down much more than I already have because I’m pretty sure that when it gets hotter my fingers will swell some

I think that’s just how it is with stones larger than 2 carats. They’re just a bit top-heavy. Mine turns a little from side to side but rarely all the way around. You get used to it.

If it really bothers you, you can look into adding sizing beads inside (some people find these uncomfortable) or getting it re-shanked with a euro shank (heavier on the bottom to prevent spinning)

I had a 2ct round solitaire ring that spun constantly. I took it to another jeweler and he told me the stone was “top heavy” because the band was too narrow (1.7mm). Don’t know if that was accurate ?? However your ring looks like it’s wider than mine was. Lost my ring this summer☹️

I have seen rings with large stones and slimmer bands – especially on smaller sizes – have small balls of metal soldered to the inside of the shank at the bottom of the ring to held center it and offset the weight of the stone. They’re called sizing beads. These are also really helpful if you have larger knuckles and smaller fingers or arthritic knuckles. You can also have a little strip of gold soldered to the inside of the bottom of the ring to make it more square as opposed to round.

A good jeweler can give you some options. You can also buy plastic ring guards from Amazon – they look like little plastic tubes that slide over the bottom of the ring – but that won’t be a great long-term solution.

I got a tiny tube of silicon goop that you put on the inside of your ring. It works great in keeping the stone facing up.

Amazon sells ring sizing glue. It works very well. You put it on the inside of the shank of your ring and cure it under the included lamp. After a while, it will flake off, but what I did is, I put it all around the bottom of the shank of my ring. On the inside and the outside. Like a doughnut of glue. And it hasn’t budged in months. And if you soak the ring in very hot water, like steaming hot, it will pop off, so it’s not permanent

I added sizing beads inside, but it made it way too small so I asked them to shave them down. They’re barely there now, but they stop 70% of the spinning

I’ve got size 6 knuckles and size 4.5 ring space. I get sizing balls or euro shanks put in all my good jewelry or my stones would forever be getting chipped and damaged by being twisted around to palm side and banged into stuff.

Should have euroshanked it when you had it set but beyond redoing the setting you could try sizing beads or hope that your wedding ring provides some stability just being in proximity or solder it to your wedding ring

I agree with the suggestions above; spinning comes with the territory when you have a larger stone. Welcome to the bezel emerald club by the way…I love mine too. It will spin less with with wedding band(s) next to it. I wear mine in a stack and it really only moves if it’s really cold and my fingers shrink some. But I’m not complaining about it being top heavy 😉

Thank you all for the suggestions! I’m learning that some amount of spinning just comes with having a ring like this, but it truly doesn’t bother me that much so i think I’ll just add a ring sizer/adjuster for now and know that’ll probably spin less with a wedding band added!

I got a plastic sizer that goes at the bottom. The friction of the material helps it spin less, but my ring is top heavy so it still spins a little bit. Also some people are saying a wedding band will help but now my wedding and ring both spin so it didn’t do much for me lol
