My Mom’s Old Ring: What Kind of Band Would Go With It?
Hey ring enthusiasts! š
I recently came into possession of my motherās stunning vintage engagement ring, and I canāt help but feel a mix of nostalgia and excitement. Itās got that timeless charm and intricate detailing that you just donāt find in many modern designs. However, itās now time to think about how to make it my own ā specifically, I’m on the hunt for the perfect wedding band to complement this family heirloom.
The Beauty of Vintage
My momās ring is a delicate piece, featuring a round brilliant diamond in a beautiful six-prong setting, with intricate filigree work and milgrain detailing on the band. It shows a little wear with age, which only adds to its character. The challenge? Finding a wedding band that enhances its beauty without overpowering it.
Factors to Consider
-
Metal Type: My momās ring is in white gold, so my first thought is to stick with the same metal. But Iāve seen some gorgeous two-tone bands that could add a striking contrast. What do you think works better: matching metals or mixing them up?
-
Style of the Band: Should I go for a classic, straight band, or something more ornate? A simple band might allow the engagement ring to shine, but an eternity band with tiny diamonds could create a stunning visual effect. What styles have you found work best when pairing with vintage rings?
-
Shape and Size: The engagement ring has a bit of height, which could make finding a compatible band a bit tricky. I want to avoid a band that doesnāt sit flush next to it. Have any of you faced this challenge? How did you solve it?
-
Personal Touch: Iād love to incorporate something personal, maybe even a few tiny gemstones or a unique engraving. How did you add your own style to your wedding band?

Its lovely. You might need to have something made to fit it..š©·
Your Mom’s ring is soooo beautiful! I agree you may need to get something custom made.
I had one very similar to it but my flower was smaller. The pointy ends of the ring kept jabbing my fingers when I did house work. I had them blunted then eventually had the flower made into a pendant. I actually never wore a wedding band with mine.
I feel like this type of ring needs a plain band – solid gold or pave. You’ll never find something that contours to it
Needs to be custom
Beautiful ring! I personally donāt even think it needs a band, itās so unique.
But if you want one, maybe some sort of wave contour band? Iād recommend going to a local jeweler and have [something like this](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1895380689/?ref=share_ios_native_control) custom made!
Reset it into an eternity band you can create a stack with. There is no band that goes with that cluster
I wouldn’t put a band with it.
Would look incredible with an organic shaped one almost like a vine or tree bark
A design shaped like [this](https://www.etsy.com/listing/4367477280/?) could work or [this one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/4343789336/?). You could use a trusted vendor to create a custom band based on any designs you like to make sure it fits your ring like a glove. I think [this one](https://www.etsy.com/listing/4329603657/?) would be super cohesive with your ring (mirrored to fit your design).
