My original engagement ring was $300 from a pawn shop. The rings I’m wearing now are Moissanite in sterling silver and even less expensive. You can get a decent Moissanite ring set in 10k gold from many places online for $400 or less and will still last you many, many years. There are so many more options for affordable rings now versus when I got engaged in 2014. Congratulations on the soon to be engagement!
I’ve been wearing a fake $35 Amazon ring for the last few years. When my husband and I got married he was finishing school, I was pregnant, and I just wore a wedding band, we had other more important things (to us) to spend money on. So, honestly, I’ve gotten so many compliments on my Amazon ring—no one knows.
11 years later and I’m finally having rings made. But my point is, it really doesn’t matter and no one will know unless you tell them. Rings don’t bring happiness.

You can get rhodium plated sterling silver ring with moissanite instead of diamond. White gold is plated with rhodium anyways! You can definitely find this in your budget, and it will sparkle even more than the most expensive diamond!

I think that’s actually a totally reasonable budget for a lot of the mossanite rings on Etsy – and those are hand set in silver, 10k, or 14k gold, not some mystery alloy. There are great recommendations for vendors on the mossanite subs!

I told my fiance that under no circumstances was he to spend over 600 dollars on a ring. That whole 3 months salary is a marketing ploy.
That kind of money can be spent doing small remodels in our home, or giving me a design budget to make our home look nicer.( i want new curtains and curtain rods, lol)
