Sometimes Regretting the Halo: A Deep Dive into Engagement Ring Choices
Engagement rings are more than just pieces of jewelry; they are symbols of love, commitment, and personal stories. As a community dedicated to showcasing and discussing engagement rings, we know that every choice—from the type of metal to the setting—reflects individual taste and values. Today, let’s delve into a topic that often surfaces in our discussions: “Sometimes Regretting the Halo.”
The Halo Setting: A Double-Edged Sword
Halo settings, with their surrounding cluster of smaller diamonds or gemstones, are undeniably popular for their ability to enhance the center stone, making it appear larger and more brilliant. However, as thrilling as the “wow” factor can be, some may find themselves second-guessing their choice over time.
Reasons for Regret
-
Trendy vs. Timeless: While the halo setting is a staple in modern engagement rings, tastes evolve. What feels cutting-edge today might feel dated in a few years. Are we drawn to trends rather than our authentic style?
-
Maintenance Mayhem: Rings with intricate setups can attract dirt and require more upkeep. Have you found yourself frustrated trying to keep your halo sparkling?
-
Comfort Factor: Some wearers report discomfort with a halo’s height or bulkiness. Did your ring’s aesthetics compromise comfort?
-
Practicality: For those who lead active lifestyles or work in environments where a bulky ring can be a hindrance, a halo might not be the best fit. Did you consider your lifestyle when choosing your ring?
-
Personal Connection: Ultimately, engagement rings should resonate with personal stories. Perhaps the halo doesn’t symbolically connect with your relationship in the way you hoped.

No that looks so gorgeous on your hand
I had a halo for 6 years and now switching because my taste has changed. Your ring is beautiful. If it doesn’t grow onto you, the diamond can always be set differently.
I have a round solitaire (1.5 ct) with a halo in cathedral (plain) 14 kt white gold band and I *absolutely* love my ring. Size 5.
I got married last month. My wedding band is an eternity band in 14 kt white gold.
I love my rings even more!!
In the end, you must do what in your heart. The ring you have now is **gorgeous** and I’m sure whatever you decide, it will make you happy.
I love halos! I kind of wish I had one to be honest!
It’s so sparkly and beautiful- don’t even think of changing it.
I have a double halo and I absolutely love it. Rock it!
I totally agree. Not a fan of halos around diamonds. IMO it takes away from the beauty of the primary stone and reads as an attempt to trick people into thinking you have a bigger stone… which is just corny. Your diamond is lovely!
Beautiful 🤩
It’s Beautiful. 🩷🩷
Beautiful ring
never regret the halo – it’s so sad that people are leaving behind a relic of our time in order to stay with the times- you’ll never be able to keep up! Untouched vintage rings are worshipped nowadays, we should respect what we wore when we chose to walk down this road and let it grow with us, am I crazy? I am married now but I was engaged once before and I feel like the ring was such a big project, but the relationship had no real value and now my ring with my husband is a perfect simple 1920’s style oval halo that we got for $700 in the steal of the century and I wouldn’t change a thing about it. sorry if I am bringing the vibe down, I just think we should be proud of our halos, they are beautiful, yours included! Don’t change a thing, you’ll appreciate this later because it’s gorgeous, I promise.
Perfect just the way it is. I’m also going from solitaire to halo
I promise you won’t be happy with this reset into a solitaire because you’re used to the finger coverage now.
Either leave it or buy a separate ring altogether to alternate wearing them.
I gained some weight, and my rings no longer fit. I didn’t want to resize them, so I got a cheap moissanite ring for the time being. I decided to get something a little larger and without a halo to try out. Every day I think about how much I miss having a halo. Wear what you like and don’t worry about what others think. Your ring is stunning!
That ring is beautiful. I have a halo ring and I love it!! Screw the haters
Gorgeous!
It’s beautiful. I know halos aren’t super popular right now but their moment will come again. I have one on my original ring. My husband is Lebanese so they like their bling too.
Your ring is gorgeous
A halo is a classic ring. I think your ring is absolutely gorgeous
It spectacular.
It’s beautiful. But i always say the same thing about mine.
This is a gorgeous ring. Mine is a cushion cut with a halo and I like how yours looks. When I see yours, I think damn that’s a big diamond. In a really good way.
Literally give it a year and halos will be “back” in style (they never went out of style)
If you want a change, maybe plan ahead to make your beautiful diamonds into a solitaire? Halos are hated on here and many forums but done people love them.
It’s the square halo on a round stone. For me it doesn’t make sense, but you do you!
it’s a really well balanced halo. my old ring was a halo too but the halo stones were HUGE and took away focus from the main stone. this is so pretty!
It’s a beautiful ring.
That ring is gorgeous!
I love halos- I think it is beautiful !
Part of choosing an engagement ring is that YOU have to love it. You need to stop worrying about whether it’s on trend or other people like it. This is your ring that you’re going to be wearing for a very long time, and nobody else’s opinion matters. You’re going to have to stop looking for other people’s approval.
Your fiance may love you dearly, but he’s not going to love making a million adjustments to this very expensive piece of jewelry.
If my partner came to me and said they wanted the ring modified a third time, I might just call off the engagement.
THATS less than 1.5ct??!
That ring is absolutely gorgeous! And just stunning on your hand!
My ring is a halo a third of the size of yours and I adore it. Your ring is spectacular!! Idk what’s wrong with folks that can’t appreciate halos when they add extra sparkle but do not take away from beauty of the center stone- your is case in point! Wear what your heart loves!
Your ring is BEAUTIFUL! We are ring twins, but I was engaged in 2015.

I’m not a halo fan but i think its gorgeous here
Your ring is beautiful and insanely sparkly! If it’s in your budget, I would say get another ring! Who is to say you can only have one. If you’re open to a lab diamond you can have one made relatively inexpensively.
Gorgeous
Try wearing a solitaire for a while – it gets boring! This is an exquisite halo!!
That is blingtastic!
My first ring was a 1.5ct elongated cushion halo. Second ring is 2ct non-halo setting. I still kind of miss the halo! I still like them. Hubby might buy me another halo ring for an anniversary gift eventually to pay homage to the first ring (which he accidentally threw away). So yeah I’m someone that went from halo to non-halo ring, but I still love halos despite all the people online that don’t like them.
I think it looks great! Though I’m a fan of non-halo for both the look and they seem to be less maintenance- not sure if it’s helpful but I’m the same ring size and have a non-halo ring if you would like to see how it looks [https://imgur.com/a/0-45ct-yellow-gold-solitaire-ring-size-3-25-us-MCxdlT6](https://imgur.com/a/0-45ct-yellow-gold-solitaire-ring-size-3-25-us-MCxdlT6)
This is a stunning ring and the halo does take away from the main stone at all imo.
Edit: I meant to type DOES NOT take away from the main stone.
I think its perfection. Are you just worried about it because people are rude about halos lately?
To be honest I upgraded my solitaire to a halo recently after 10 years married.
Love it!!!!
I have a halo ring with a gorgeous, round stunner and I think it all just makes it more sparkly. When I used to work publicly, some women who were customers would ask me just to look at the sparkle of the ring. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like alone, but truly, I believe that all the little diamonds contribute to a magical whole. It wouldn’t be the same.
It’s beautiful!
Ohhhhmamaaaa!!! I love it. Looks great on your hand with poppin’ red nails.
