Pear vs. Cushion Cut: The Ultimate Engagement Ring Debate
When it comes to choosing the perfect engagement ring, two diamond cuts have captured the hearts of many — the pear cut and the cushion cut. Both radiate charm and elegance, but they each bring their own unique flair to the table. Let’s dive into the pros and cons of each to help you figure out which one resonates more with your personal style!
The Pear Cut: A Touch of Whimsy
Shaped like a teardrop, the pear cut is a favorite for those who appreciate something a bit unconventional. Here are a few reasons to consider this cut:
- Distinctive Shape: The pear cut’s unique silhouette elongates the finger and adds a playful touch to any engagement ring.
- Brilliance: With its 58 facets, the pear cut is designed to reflect light beautifully, resulting in a stunning sparkle.
- Versatility: This cut looks gorgeous in various settings, whether you are drawn to classic solitaire or eclectic halo styles.
User Tip: If you’re considering a pear cut, think about how the ring might affect your daily activities — are you often using your hands? The point of the pear cut can be slightly more prone to chipping, so consider a protective setting.
The Cushion Cut: Timeless Romance
With its soft, rounded corners and large facets, the cushion cut offers a romantic, vintage appeal. Here are some features to ponder:
- Classic Elegance: The cushion cut has been popular for over a century, making it a timeless choice that never goes out of style.
- Exceptional Fire: This cut boasts a mesmerizing play of light, making each diamond unique in its sparkle.
- Comforting Shape: The rounded edges can often provide a more comfortable fit, making it a favorite for everyday wear.
User Tip: When choosing a cushion cut, pay attention to the version — some are more “antique” with a more pronounced vintage feel, while others may have crisper edges for a more modern look.

Cushion!
cushion!!!
Just based on how your nails are done, I’d suggest the cushion since it pairs nicely with their shape. But only if that’s the shape you always get them as. Either way you go both look great on your hand.
I usually say pear every time but cushion cut is the clear winner for me.
I like the cushion better because I can so clearly see through the pear shaped one to the band and that kind of bothers me

The pear compliments your hand so well but both are absolutely beautiful
I usually like the pear shape but here we can see the band through the stone, so I’d go with cushion
CUSHION!!! That is perfection on you 💖
I like the pear shape for your hand better, but just not *this* pear.
Are you talking the shape? Or those particular stones.
I prefer the pear shape on you, but that pear has issues while the cushion is a lovely stone.
Cushion. I usually like cushion better no matter what but the fact that I can see the band through the pear really brothers me.
i like the way the cushion cut sits on your hand 🙂
I don’t usually like cushion, but it looks great on your hand
