Princess or Round: Which Engagement Ring Style Reigns Supreme?
When it comes to engagement rings, two cuts tend to dominate the conversation: the classic round and the glamorous princess. Each style has its unique charm and appeal, inviting countless discussions among gem enthusiasts and lovebirds alike. So, let’s dive into the beauty of both cuts and spark a lively conversation in our engagement ring community!
The Sparkle Factor: Round Cuts
The round cut is the most popular diamond shape, known for its timeless elegance and brilliant sparkle. With 58 facets optimized for maximum light reflection, it radiates a dazzling glow that captures the heart of many. Its versatility allows it to shine in various settings, from solitaires to elaborate halo designs.
Pros of Round Cuts:
- Timelessness: It has been a classic choice for decades.
- Maximum Brilliance: The faceting allows for exceptional sparkle.
- Versatile Settings: Complements nearly any style, from vintage to modern.
But here’s the kicker: round diamonds come with a price tag that often reflects their popularity. Are you willing to pay a premium for that intricate light-play?
The Glamour of Princess Cuts
On the other hand, the princess cut is the perfect embodiment of modern romance. This shape features sharp, clean lines and a contemporary flair that can be as striking as it is stunning. With a square or rectangular shape, the princess cut offers a unique twist on traditional diamond styles, appealing to those with a taste for the bold.
Pros of Princess Cuts:
- Contemporary Appeal: Ideal for the modern bride looking for something unique.
- Affordability: Typically, they can be more budget-friendly than round diamonds, allowing for larger carat weights without breaking the bank.
- Versatile Design: The sharp corners can create a visually striking contrast in certain settings.
But some argue that the brilliance of the princess cut, while beautiful, doesn’t quite match up to the round cut. Does that matter to you when you’re picking the perfect ring?

I have a 2 carat princess cut and while I absolutely love it, I always regretted not getting the classic round. Round will never go out of style.
I’m generally not fond of either cut, but I’d go for the round here. I also agree with everyone saying the band on the princess is too thick.
Round is so classic and classy. Princess doesn’t catch all the brilliance.
2.5 princess with the thin band 😍

Princess looks SO good on you that it would be a crime to not get the more unique shape when it looks so fresh!!! & I’m usually not a fan of princess cuts.
Round
Have you considered princess in a kite orientation? They’re gorgeous!
I’ve been in design and sales of high end jewelry for 15 years and I’ve found that most people who get a princess cut diamond, wish they had gone with a different cut later. Just my observation, for what it’s worth. The round is a classic that never goes out of trend.
I think the 2.5 princess looks the best on your hand
i would say princess
I like the 2.5 princess on your hand best!
Personally I’ve always been more of a fan of the princess cut over round. It looks classier to me. Round is very common.
PRINCESS!!!! I REPEAT PRINCESS!!! Literally stunning on you.
Round all day, every day
2.5 princess!
