Second-guessing my ring selection.

Regretting My Ring Choice: Let’s Spark a Discussion!

Hey everyone! I hope you’re all doing well and living your best engagement ring dreams! 🌟 I wanted to take a moment to share something that’s been on my mind since I said “yes” to my fiancé: my engagement ring choice. While I adore the story behind it and the love it represents, I sometimes find myself regretting the specific ring I chose. I know I’m not alone in this feeling, so let’s dive in and discuss!

Why Regret?

First off, let me clarify that by “regretting my ring choice,” I don’t mean I regret getting engaged or the love that accompanies my ring. It’s more about the features of the ring itself. When I first saw it, I felt like it embodied everything I wanted. But as time passes and I’ve seen so many other beautiful rings, I find myself questioning whether I made the best choice.

A Closer Look: My Ring

Here’s a quick breakdown of my ring if you’re curious:

  • Stone: Round brilliant cut diamond
  • Carat Weight: 1.5 carats
  • Setting: Classic solitaire with a white gold band

While it’s undeniably stunning, I can’t help but notice other styles, like vintage or halo settings, that have caught my eye. The elegance of a rose gold band, or the character of a cushion cut, leaves me wondering if I should have ventured out of my comfort zone.

Let’s Talk Features: What Matters Most?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on what’s most important when picking an engagement ring. Is it:

  1. Gemstone Type: Diamond vs. alternative gems like sapphires or moissanite?

  2. Cut: Does the cut of the stone drastically affect your overall satisfaction?

  3. Setting Matters: How does the setting change your perception of the ring?

  4. Symbolic Value: Does the story behind the ring outweigh the physical attributes?

In Search of Wisdom: Your Experiences?

Have you ever found yourself regretting a ring choice? Maybe you wished you had gone with a different style or even reconsidered the size?

Or maybe you’re in the planning phase and seeking advice from the community?

  • Was there a specific feature you adored in someone else’s ring that you now wish was in yours?
  • Did you fall in love with a particular stone after your engagement?

This community is the perfect space for us to share these moments! I know I’m curious to hear about the unique choices everyone has made, both for better and for worse.

Sharing to Learn: Show Us Your Rings!

In the spirit of openness, I want to invite you to share your engagement rings! Let’s all show off our individual styles and learn from each other’s journeys. Whether you’re thrilled with your choice or had a slight twinge of regret like me, every ring tells a unique love story.

Join the Conversation!

I’m excited to see your beautiful rings and hear all your thoughts! Remember, engagement rings are personal, and every choice reflects our unique love stories. Let’s embrace the discussion, support each other, and perhaps even find a little inspiration for future upgrades or re-designs! 💍💕

Can’t wait to hear from you!

That ring looks perfect on you. It’s so beautiful! Don’t let those comments get you down. Sometimes people are just mean because they hate to see others happy. I have gotten comments like that too when my ring was 0.79ct and now at 1.5ct. I also get gold digger and money waster comments because I’m a stay at home mom. 😆 Ignore them and enjoy your beautiful ring and your marriage. My husband tells me fairly often how my ring was so worth it because I stare at it in awe every day. Your ring looks like it was made just for you and I love it on you too.

I tend to encourage people to buy jewelry that fits your life. If you’re scraping by, and everyone you surround yourself with is scraping by, it can lead to bad attitudes about larger stones and disbelief that it’s not costume. It shouldn’t be the case, but not everyone is nice.
Some of my immediate family was the same way with my larger stone rings and later when we upsized homes, nicer cars, if I ever got a designer bag, etc. Some people just can’t be happy for other people. I got a lot of ‘I would be afraid to wear that in public’, or ‘I would never want this much house to clean’. 🤦🏻‍♀️
I still get comments when I get new jewelry because I have upgraded my wedding set a couple of times. Always start as complements- but usually totally backhanded and rude overall from family.
I’ve always had chubby fingers and I feel like bigger stones look better. Recently my ring finger went down to size 4 from 8 and I’m still loving my 3,4,5ct stones just as much! Just had to worry about resetting them on different bands.

The next time someone says anything other than your ring is gorgeous (because it is), just reply very sweetly something along the lines of, “I’m surprised you feel comfortable saying something like that out loud” and walk away. Why are people so meanspirited?

I have changed my ring style a few times in my 20 year marriage. It’s not that serious imo. It’s your jewelry and you should love it. Do what makes you happy.

I’d have it reset into a wider, simpler band that’s a size or two larger.

Consider white gold, silver or platinum for the band. The contrast and band stones, combined with all the stones I assume are on your wedding band are what’s causing it to read a bit costume when combined with the large stone.

Consult with a local jeweler to determine a size that won’t create “love handles” on your fingers.

You’ll grow to hate it if people keep commenting on it negatively. People love to be negative, and you’re already on your way to hating it, so find a jeweler to help you make the type of changes you’ll fall in love with.

Yours is so cute! I chose to get the smallest diamond ring I could find that I liked, as I just had a baby and was worried it’d be too in the way. I regret it sooo much seeing everyone’s cute bigger rings!

Your fingers aren’t chubby. You can put that right out of your head. 💅

The truth is that lab diamonds have got people buying big rocks. They look ostentatious and smack of middle class materialism to a lot of the older generations (myself included, sorry 🤷‍♀️).

*But you get to do you.* If you’re old enough to get married, you’re old enough to tell people to mind their business. My favorite technique is to act like you didn’t hear them the first time – “I’m sorry, can you repeat that?” Then they hear how nasty they’re being.

    Congratulations and all the best.

Man I never participate in the chats- BUT, size queen here! People who make those comments are insecure, jealous, OR WEIRDOS. IMHO, the bigger the rock, the smaller it makes my hand look- I have fat fingers for sure. My own insecurity.

Your ring is BEAUTIFUL, I’d hate for you to let weird opinions be the reason you don’t love your ring. When I first got mine I heard, “Of course you went big” “Oh I love your ring, so antique!” (It’s a ring custom to me)

I know what I wanted for my ring, and I LOVE IT- THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS. My response is always “I’m a lucky girl, he LISTENED!”

I don’t think it’s costumy at all and all the craftsmanship gives it a delicate feminine feel. To me it feels honestly very proportional to your hand and I don’t think your fingers look at all chubby, the opposite in fact.

Costume jewelry? Let me tell you whoever said that to you is a hater. Costume jewelry is like Renaldo’s wife’s ring. It’s so beautiful and I find it crazy that people made comments like that. In my opinion it’s straight up jealousy. You got a big beautiful ring and people are jealous!!

I think it’s beautiful! Nothing near costume jewelry! That’s just silly talk.
If you want a cut that you can get your fingers appear longer is the Radiant cut, oval, pear shape and marquise cut. I found that the princess cut isn’t really flattering for trying to elongate your fingers. I guess any cut that’s squared. Good luck and keep us updated with the one you chose! 😊

if you don’t like it change it! no shame! i think an emerald cut would be more flattering if you feel like this cushion is making your fingers look “chubby”. it’s a pretty ring but if it’s not your dream no harm is trying again

cushion cuts are smaller face up than other cuts. It looks great on you! And I love how your band fits perfectly with your engagement ring. I’m a small diamond kind of girl and I don’t think yours looks too big.

Why are people so weird about this stuff? Not sure why they think it’s okay to be crappy like this. OP, some of it sounds like jealousy, some of it sounds like it’s not their taste but also, they don’t need to say anything at all about it in that case. Bambi taught me at least, “If you can’t say something nice, then don’t say nothing at all.”

Please ignore the haters. I know it can be defeating to get so many negative remarks, but what’s important is that you loved it, and there’s no reason not to now.

For what it’s worth, I genuinely think it looks really nice on you and doesn’t look like costume jewelry at all. It’s a beautiful stone, and a beautiful ring. Poop on those losers.

I think it’s a beautiful ring, and it looks great on you, but at the end of the day your opinion is the only one that matters.

First of all your ring is absolutely beautiful!!! Second of all, I would NEVER say something like that about someone’s engagement ring. What are people thinking seriously?

I’m going to offer a tiny piece of advice that you did not ask for. IMO, your ring is absolutely gorgeous!! And the ring on your pointer finger is also gorgeous, but you need to remove it. I think it’s taking away from the elegance of your engagement ring. I hope you have a beautiful wedding.

It doesnt look to big at all, to me.  I wouldnt be bothered by the large stone comments.

When they say it looks like costume jewelry im guessing they are referencing the bands its mounted on?

It is beautiful, but the bands are not going to be everyones style.  So the question is.  Are they your style, do you like them.

I think your ring is a good size for your finger and looks beautiful. I’m not a bigger is always better girl and I chose a 2.2 ct diamond. I think your ring is the perfect size for you.

That ring is absolutely beautiful!! I’m typically not a fan of big rock rings for my personal tastes, but yours looks so elegant and accentuates your hand so well. I’m shocked that you’re getting negative comments.

I have a really similar ring and I get the same comments too! My hands are super short so a lot of people’s immediate question is if it’s fake. Obviously easier said than done but try not to listen to them🙃 no matter what ring you have someone will always have a negative opinion about it. I personally think your ring is beautiful and it totally suits shorter chubbier hands

The people talking to you suck! Your ring is gorgeous. There is absolutely no reasonable explanation to make those comments…they are being rude on purpose and it’s working. You are questioning yourself.

It looks lovely and perfectly well suited to your finger size. It doesn’t make your fingers look chubby. I think they look elegant. It’s ok to have feelings about others’ takes but don’t forget that your opinion is the most important one. You loved it and were so excited! “What an odd thing to say” is a great response if anyone makes further comments. They are wasting their life energy throwing shade at a tiny piece of metal and rock chosen and worn by and for someone else. You can help them realize how that’s rude and nonsensical!

I’d focus on surrounding yourself with nicer people instead. It’s bizarre that grown people think that those kinds of comments are appropriate.
