Should I Bring My Dupe? Engaging in the Ring Debate
Hey, fellow ring enthusiasts!
We all know that engagement rings hold a unique place in our hearts, symbolizing love, commitment, and the beginning of a beautiful journey together. But what about the rings themselves? There’s something so exhilarating about sharing our beautiful bling and the stories behind them. Today, let’s dive into a more playful yet thought-provoking topic that many might contemplate: “Should I bring my dupe?”
What’s a “Dupe,” Anyway?
For those who might be unfamiliar, a “dupe” is a duplicate or imitation of a more expensive item. In the world of jewelry, this often refers to rings that mimic more high-end designs—think stunning lab-created gemstones or exquisite vintage-inspired settings at a fraction of the cost!
The Case for Bringing Your Dupe
-
Affordability: Let’s be real; not everyone has the budget for a diamond that costs a small fortune. Bringing a dupe allows you to flaunt an eye-catching ring without breaking the bank.
-
Style Without Compromise: With so many beautiful designs out there, sometimes the perfect ring is just out of reach. A dupe can help you get that coveted style—like a stunning halo setting or an intricate vintage design—without a guilt trip.
-
No Pressure: If you’re traveling or attending events where you might worry about theft, a dupe provides peace of mind. You can enjoy the festivities without constantly looking over your shoulder.
-
Environmental Considerations: Many dupes are made from lab-created stones, which often have a smaller carbon footprint compared to their mined counterparts. If sustainability is a priority for you, this is an appealing option.
The Other Side of the Coin
-
Authenticity: Some people believe that an engagement ring should be a symbol of genuine love, often associated with the rarity and authenticity of natural gemstones. Wearing a dupe might not resonate with everyone.
-
Perceptions: Unfortunately, some may judge a relationship based on its superficial aspects, including rings. This could lead to unwanted comparisons or uncomfortable discussions about what ‘real’ means to them.
-
Meaningful Connection: For many, engagement rings carry the emotional weight of special moments. The thought of getting a unique piece might feel more significant than wearing a replica.
Share Your Thoughts!
Now, let’s open the floor for discussion! Do you think it’s acceptable to bring a dupe to a gathering of ring aficionados? What’s your take on the balance between budget and authenticity? Have you opted for a dupe, and if so, what was the story behind your choice?
I’d love to see your beautiful rings, whether they’re vintage, custom-made, or dupes! Let’s sprinkle some inspiration and knowledge here, and empower each other to celebrate love in all its forms.
Happy posting, everyone! 💍✨
What do you think? Should we embrace the dupe culture, or does authenticity reign supreme? Let’s discuss!

I never travel with heirlooms or precious stones because if I lost it I wouldn’t be able to cope. Just safer 😁
I would wear the dupe. I would be to scared to lose it. I just took a trip to Disney worlds/ Epcot and wore a simple silver band. I feel like to was way more relaxed because I didn’t have to worry about losing or damaging my ring. It took a lot of weight off.
Is your ring insured? I’d leave it at home personally, but a lot of people wear their rings abroad, it’s just up to your risk preference
Protect your personal and property safety at all times. You’re wise 👍
Where is your dupe from? It’s beautiful! 🙂
Long flights or even swimming can lead to a lot of swelling shifts that may lead to losing your ring. It depends on the person, but it’s worth caution
I have worn my actual engagement ring while traveling abroad (Thailand, Singapore, Japan, Australia). I’m going to Europe in a few months and will probably wear it too. I’m not worried about losing it or forgetting it somewhere. Other things like being mugged or robbed can happen anywhere, so I feel like wearing it in my home city vs anywhere else would be the same. I don’t really see the point in wearing a dupe. I would either want my actual ring or no ring at all.
Better safe than sorry.
Definitely wear your travel ring whilst on travel. I assure you it’ll give you much more peace of mind. When I travel, I wear my travel ring or no ring at all.
I never travel with my real rings. I always lock them up before we vacation. Plus dupes are a fun way to try something new for a bit. I’ve lost and dinged a few up over the years and I’d have felt horrible if that had happened to my original set.
The travel ring is stunning. Which vendor did you get it from?
Bring the dupe. On my trip to Europe last summer I felt better wearing the dupe cuz you never know!
Wear the dupe. How would you feel if you took your real one and it was lost?
Never take sentiments for granted, if you feel safer leaving it at home where you know it’ll be then I say go for it. 🙂 I don’t trust myself with my ring so on trips I leave mine at home. I’d never forgive myself if I took it on a trip and left it somewhere.
I may not be the one to ask lol, but …. in 21+ years of marriage, I never took off or didn’t wear my wedding/engagement rings. Never. Everywhere I went, they went. And my husband was a commercial airline pilot and we traveled (as a couple and then as a family of 4 with 2 kids) all the time. Rings went all over the USA with me, all over Europe, to Mexico and Jamaica and Aruba, on cruises, planes, trains, busses, and in oceans. For 21+ years. I never even removed my rings during pregnancy. The only time I was forced to temporarily remove them was during my knee surgery and some MRI’s. Otherwise, my rings were always just a part of me. And it’s funny but I never was afraid of losing them either. Was I just lucky? Idk🤷🏻♀️. But I remember my mom doing the same (my parents have now been married for 67 years) and my sister too (now married for 43 years). I don’t think it was a “thing” years ago to take wedding rings on and off, or to have “replacement” rings .. so maybe that’s part of it, too, idk. Regardless, sometimes I think you run the risk of losing it or something happening to it the more you take it off and on again. Enjoy your trip to Italy!!🇮🇹🍷
I go by the rule that if I were to lose when traveling and regret it, to just leave it home.
Insurance will give you a piece of mind imo
I love my travel ring, wear the dupe
Also get your real ring insured but honestly do no both is still a huge peace of mind
Dupe! If it’ll let you have a little peace of mind so you can be present on your trip, I’d do that.
I’d wear the dupe. Both are beautiful. And then you would not be afraid.
oh my god i love your real ring! where is it from?
it’s all personal preference. we’re also going to italy for our honeymoon and i’m just going to turn it around so the stone is inward and keep my hands closed/in my pockets while walking around. i have a solitaire so it just looks like an unimpressive plain band when it’s turned around.
Wear the dupe even if you have insurance! I don’t think it’s worth the risk and I personally would regret not choosing to wear the dupe if something actually happened to my real ring.
Wear the dupe
Wear your dupe!!!!!
I’ve scared myself too many times. Wear your dupe.
I saw a TikTok where a girl at Disney lost hers after walking a rope bridge and it snagged on the rope.
ITS NOT WORTH IT
Please bring the dupe for your own peace of mind.
I don’t know why the thought of you wearing your real ring on the trip scares me. Please wear the dupe. Your real ring is stunning BTW, and I love that you got a dupe that’s very similar in style.
If you lost the dupe, it wouldn’t hit as hard as if you lost your real ring. Better safe than sorry.
I don’t understand why people worry about losing their rings when they travel unless they’re going to a place where it’s a a high risk of being stolen. If you wear it daily and lose it at let’s say the mall you’re no more likely to find it there than you would be at a theme park. You’re also no more likely to lose it at a theme park than you are at your local grocery store. (Provided it’s properly fitted.)
I would use the dupe, but, I have problems with my memory. ‘Know thyself ‘ as the saying goes
I don’t get the point of having a ring if you don’t feel safe wearing it everywhere.
Depends where I’m travelling. If its to countries where I have to be more cautious than my home country or if its a beach holiday, then I leave it at home. My wedding rings are diamond bands and I bought a plain 9ct wedding band for travelling to countries where I think my rings will look insensitive as well.
