Welp. I Love My Engagement Ring, But Y’all Were Right About the Pearls…
Hey ring enthusiasts! 💍✨
I wanted to share my engagement ring journey—and, oh boy, it’s a bit of a wild ride! First off, let me just say: I absolutely adore my ring. The moment my partner proposed with it, I felt all the butterflies and fairytale vibes. It’s elegant, unique, and so me! But here’s the kicker: it’s a pearl, and that’s where the love story has gotten a little complicated.
When I was searching for the perfect ring, I was captivated by the romantic allure of pearls. They’re elegant, timeless, and have such a rich history. So naturally, I found what I thought was the perfect engagement ring—a stunning pearl surrounded by sparkling diamonds. I snagged it, proud as a peacock, and everyone raved about how beautiful it was!
But after a few weeks, reality hit hard. Pearls, as gorgeous as they are, have some quirks that I wasn’t fully prepared for:
-
Fragility: Pearls are relatively soft compared to other gemstones. I quickly learned that my ring required special treatment. I had to baby it, avoiding harsh cleaning chemicals and making sure it didn’t come into contact with any hard surfaces.
-
Maintenance: Adjusting to a daily wear routine for a pearl ring has been an eye-opener. From body lotions to perfumes, I’ve had to totally rethink my beauty regimen. One mishap and the shine dulled.
-
Resale Value: Let’s be real—pearls don’t have the same resale value as diamonds or other more durable stones. If you’re someone who might consider upgrading or selling down the line, it’s something to consider.
-
Scratches and Dings: They are prone to scratches! I’ve had more than one heart-stopping moment when I accidentally bumped my ring against something tough. 😱
Now, I’m not here to discourage anyone from loving pearls—certainly not! They’re beautiful, unique, and make a statement. But if you’re considering a pearl engagement ring, I hope some of my experiences help you make a more informed choice. And trust me, if you do decide to go for it, you’ll want to invest in a proper case to keep your ring safe when it’s not on your finger.
In hindsight, I also appreciate the craftsmanship and the story behind my ring even more, despite the maintenance. It symbolizes a love that’s nurtured and cared for, just like pearls need to be. But I would definitely recommend doing ample research or consulting with experts before choosing a ring with pearls, especially for something as significant as an engagement!
Now, I’d love to open up the floor for discussion!
- Have any of you had experiences with pearl engagement rings?
- What gems do you think are best for everyday wear?
- Are there tips or tricks you’d recommend for someone who wants to rock a pearl ring?
Let’s hear your stories, share advice, and continue to celebrate the beauty of engagement rings in all their forms! 💖💍

oh no. i’m so sorry this happened. it’s such a beautiful ring !!!
I love it. You just need 1000 pearls and to learn how to fix it at home.
Even with a missing pearl, that is one of the prettiest rings I’ve ever seen
It’s beautiful! Sorry about the pearl mishap though! Pearls are one of my absolute favorites
What’s the center stone? Lab pad sapphire??
Even if they stay stuck, then nacre will wear over time. You definitely want to learn to replace them yourself. Shouldn’t be too hard – a two-part epoxy is probably the best bet, but do your own research for sure!
Oh no 😭 I remember when you first posted your ring, it wasn’t that long ago! Luckily pearls aren’t super expensive. I’d probably get a bunch that are the same size and pre drilled. A strong adhesive in the hole and just replace them as you lose them.
Time to replace the lost and the one still there, with stones that match the middle one.
Oh dear 🙁
Wow! Not many rings here truly make me speechless.
Pearls are so beautiful, and I wish I had advice for you.

Vintage style rings have much more pronounced prongs securing the pearls
Damn.
She’s so pretty and I love your style.
Can you just buy a bunch of seed pearls and super glue? Can the pearls be retrofitted with prongs?
I have always loved and thought about ring (also a former sailor moon fan from the 90s!) I always thought if the pearls didn’t work-that opal would be glorious too!
I remember liking the original post a while back!! It sucks but life be happening. I still think it’s pretty. Missing gems and all
Oh my wow! Your ring is gorgeous and the pearls definitely complement the design!
My initial thoughts are to either have the prongs modified to secure them better, or consider another stone that gives you a similar iridescence – moonstones perhaps?
Edit to add opals as another beautiful option!
Your ring is gorgeous. What is the center gemstone? Sapphire?
Not only that you should not clean diamonds and pearls the same way! When they are together cleaning options become more limited.
It’s a very pretty ring! Sorry about the pearl situation.
Oh my goodness 😍😍😍 what kind of stone is that??
Wow thats a really beautiful ring
Maybe a jeweler can solder a post sticking up from the middle where the pearl goes on the ring and drill a small hole into the pearl and epoxy glue it in there?
Beautiful ring, but not designed for every day wear.
An engagement ring needs to be practical, if it’s going to be worn everyday. So you need to make smart choices about the materials being used.
Pearls are beautiful, but they are not a good choice for everyday rings: necklaces yes, rings no.
This is so beautiful 😍 I’m so sorry about your pearl, I would cry!! What jeweler was this?
Stunning center piece gem but the pearls are a no-go functionally and aesthetically
Can you swap pearls for opals?
Oof! Rip pearl
As someone who also wanted a pearl ring I looked into fake pearls. I found some jewellers who were able (and willing) to source some very real looking fake pearls that could be set more securely. I never ended up going with a pearl because my partner asked to propose with his great grandmothers ring that I absolutely adore (I don’t have the ring yet lol) but if you love the pearl look and don’t care too much about the actual monetary value of the ring there are some very real looking fake pearls out there.
I feel like if you want to replace them with stones two white opals might be interesting 🤨!!! Gorgeous ring!!
Pray tell, where did you acquire such a beautifully cut stone?
If you did want to swap out the pearls for a stone to save on maintenance, I think that opals would look so nice! They would really match the ethereal vibe of the ring.
1.) your ring is stunning 2.) what CAMERA captured this?!?!
Can you tell us more about your ring? What the center stone is, what kind of cut it is? It’s very beautiful, and I’m sorry to hear about the pearl falling out.
oh my god your ring is drop dead gorgeous 😍😍
God that stone is absolutely gorgeous!!
