What about adding extra prongs to the corners?
No I don’t think it’s normal to have a ring tightened. You should have a secure ring from the start.
I’d suggest taking it somewhere to get it cleaned and checked at least once every 6 months. That’s the standard reccommendation for daily wear jewelry at the store where I work, but you might want to do it a little more often—to me it kind of looks like the setting is too dainty for the size of the stone, so it’s possible that you could continue to have problems.
If it’s wobbly after only a few months I’d be so paranoid about it all the time. Sounds like the setting is too frail for a stone of that size.
I’d take it to another jeweller and ask their opinion. It’s unfortunately not uncommon for some jewellers to just give a customer what they’re asking for without explaining the realities of it. A second opinion might clear up the problem for you.

Admittedly I don’t know how this stuff works, but shouldn’t the jewellers be trying to find a solution to this? It sounds like they sold you a faulty product – so at the very least would you get your money back OR a different design as an exchange?
I have a similar ring and never had to tighten it and had zero issues.

Take the ring to a jeweler and ask them to tighten the prongs and add two more to make it more secure. Very common request.
Having your diamond tightened once after getting your ring isn’t common but also not something I’d worry about. I’ve worked in a custom jewellery store for 20 years and it happens sometime just with a new ring especially a high setting you might have hit it without realizing. My worry would be that the setting and ring look like they might be a bit delicate for your stone. I’d talk to your jeweller about if the stone comes loose again should you look at having the ring remade. Keeping the same design but making adjustments to suit your lifestyle. Also I’d look at jewellery insurance just in case. Some plans will cover repairs as well as loss.
I’m kind of surprised. I have a very high set oval solitaire on 4 prongs with a hidden halo as well and I’ve worn it for 2 years now and never had a problem. I wear it every single day and was working a physical laborious job for most of that time. It never has felt loosened at all. Maybe get a 2nd opinion from a different jeweler and see if they can provide a longer lasting solution.

4 prongs are more prone to being loose especially with exposed corners, but you may have a jeweler look at how the seats are cut and make sure the diamond is sitting properly in those seats.

If there is no rail between the prongs it will always loosen up.
I have no answer to your question. I just have to tell you that your ring is absolutely GORGEOUS and looks amazing on you!
Compass prongs 100% allow a stone to become wiggly. Ur best bet will probably be to add some discreet white gold or platinum prongs to the corners so they blend in w the stone and the yellow prongs can still POP and look compass set. The exposed corners will keep getting bumped in things and it’ll get loose no matter how many times u tighten it
I can’t tell in the picture if your prongs are in white gold. If they’re not – in my opinion – I would change to white gold prongs and move them to each corner. This way the diamond will show better and not have to compete with more prongs also blending better.
The setting is just not a great choice for the stone. It’s extremely dainty, most advise against a ring that thin, especially with a stone do this size. Plus there’s no corner prongs, so you’ll continue to have this issue. The setting overall isn’t secure. I’d have them rework it or get a new setting, maybe from another jeweler considering this one thought this was acceptable..

It shouldnt be doing this. If you get a new setting, dont use the same jeweler. The fact that it feels loose so soon and that they were willing to make the band so thin is a red flag. Obv compass prongs are not ideal for any stone but shouldnt be loose
There are jewelers out there who offer a lifetime warranty on these things. My ring has had stones replaced, been resized, cleaned, polished, etc. and I have never paid a penny since my husband got it for me.
i had compass prongs on my cushion and had to have it reset because it kept shifting as well. I was so stressed all the time and now i have danty double prongs on the corners. Sometimes i miss the look of the compass prongs, but i do love my new setting and the comfort it brings me knowing it’s secure

Make sure you insure your ring. That way it’s covered.
Also why I wanted my ring from Kessler’s. They have free life time cleanings and servicing. Replace any lost diamonds for the same kind you had including center stone. The only thing they don’t cover is a lost/stolen ring. That’s what jewelry insurance is for. Usually can easily add a policy wherever you have renters/home owners, sometimes car depending on the company.
Protect those edges of that gorgeous stone! You don’t wanna chip it

How beautiful 🙂 I picked out my ring, 14k gold with a giant center stone like yours and a thin band. I had no idea gold was fragile and I would have to be super careful to not bang it on things and actually treat it like a delicate piece of jewelry.
However, my family jeweler is an angel and talked me off my ledge. Yes it will need to be tightened periodically, yes I will need to be careful, yes I 100% needed an insurance policy in just in case… I now have zero anxiety about my ring because of the insurance policy. 100% coverage for loss or theft, any damage is covered. $54/yr highly recommend for your own sanity
I have a high 4 prong setting on my engagement ring and I have had to have it repaired at least 5 times in the last 7 years.
The stone is loose AGAIN so I finally bit the bullet and I’m having the stone reset into a similar setting with a basket. It will be a lower profile and more secure.
Your ring is gorgeous!! I love my original ring too. But I want to *wear* it but instead it spends so much time in the box bc it’s always wobbly.
